What you dont want to see
It amazes me when I see people with expensive cars and trucks at the self serve wash, using the foaming brush. They grind their own dirt, plus whatever has accumulated in the brush, into the paint.

I do agree most folks will just wash their vehicals with whatever.
I'll use the self serve, but only with the pressure wash set to Rinse to knock off the big chunks. Even the soap there has questionable chemistry.
EDIT: I may have misread what you said - if you are saying you are blasting the crap out of the brush first, that's not quite as bad and I apologize. However, you still have the inherent scratchiness of any brush and the caustic soap to consider.
I am a lot attendent at a local ford dealer, so my main job is to wash cars on the lot, and we use brush's, but after about every 5 cars we spray them off and then get new soap about every 10 cars, and we never wash our shelbys or anything like that with brush's only the finest microfiber mitts and chamois for them. But when you have 200 plus cars to wash you have to use brushs and a pressure washer to get them done as easily and efficient as possible.
