What is up with bugs and white vehicles?

Every time I was my truck and car I get these little bugs all over the truck. They are on it as soon as the water stops flowing. They make it hard to dry because they are crawling all over.

Then after I get it dry they are still all over grrrr.

I have only noticed this on white.

Our boat is the same thing. Its white, and every time we go to wash it, bugs just attract to it like gold and won't budge! Then I find that when I'm trying to dry it I smear the finish of the paint with bug crap and I'm wiping bugs all over it trying to dry it. I almost fell in the water one time trying to hit all the bugs out of the way!

Having had a white boat and two white cars/trucks, I will take a stab at why this happens. As you know bugs are attracted to light, especially at night, but in the day also and more so in the shade. White surfaces reflect more light than black or darker surfaces, hence bugs loving white clean cars and boats. Or maybe they think it is porcelin and a bathroom!

Tis that time of year... I noticed the same thing on my truck this evening while drying...

Oh yeah, get used to seeing everything 'dark' on your white paint... that's the curse of white.

My personal theory is that they're not attracted to the white trucks as much as they are to the owners of said white trucks. After all, we did have the foresight, intellect and good taste to order understated, elegant and otherwise beautiful trucks. Then again, it might just be that all of the other colors just hide the darn things. Of course if you're paranoid, they're just after you!

The bugs are getting on me now. How can I get rid of them?
