97-98 install as requested by tarajerame
tarajerame asked for pics of the install on the 97-98 F-150
Truck is a 98 with a 4.3L V6
i followed this thread and it went pretty smoothly.
heres the stock intake snorkel.
the snorkel just pulls off and your left with
the airbox has a tab shown below and i notched the pipe like so.
i cut the pipe to about 6" and shaved it down with tool shown
i just filed the pipe down and tested it until it fit.
then put the pipe coupler on with about half the clamp on the end that attaches to the airbox.
then put the new pipe in the fender and then the only difficult part you have to put the end of the airbox into the coupler and use a little force to get it into its mounts.
once the airbox is in the coupler just tighten the clamp and it creates a seal
after that just replace the filter and your good to go.
any questions feel free to ask.

Well my mod is complete. I got to say I don't regret it, Overall power not sure about yet, but I can tell she is lighter on her feet, better throttle response. I honestly figured that I would get into this and run into something, or something go wrong, but I will have to has it was as easy as reading it on paper. Thanks for the write up.

well im doin this mod today finally. 10 bucks in parts. ill post results later when im done.
one question tho, do the 4.2s have the intake silencer? our intake tubes look different than the ones pictured, idk ill see if i can find it when im out there..
Edit: finished the mod, didnt have time to do a test drive so ill update with my opinion on that later. Oh and i couldnt find anything resembling a silencer either.
Couldnt find a black plastic pipe or a black coupler that i thought would work..so this is what i ended up with

Ok I am new to the forums, but had a 95 F150 XLT since 2001, just got a 2000 XL and want to do this mod. My question is I work in the Boating industry and I saw this mod and then got to work and looked at a 3" bilge fan, would this be too much air to force in with a blower? Just a thought. Other than being curious about the blower I am going to do the regular mod this weekend.. Thanks..
