Just did the Intake mod. Man easy! around 26-2800 the truck started picking up speed better. Impressive for 10 bucks! I didn't know how much it would help, it did help!

Thanks!

Now to do the silencer when daylight comes back.

I love this mod, for i while i just left the snorkel out. I found a lil' somethign thats a lil easier than this, I took an old water bottle, so happen the top where the lid goes one is 3 inches. SO i jsut slipped that end in the intake and cut the necassary amount off and wa lah!

Great Mod,for those looking to cut down the PVC pipe,I found a belt sander,C-clamped down to a bench and I zip tied mine for constant on,used plug for on off.I then used the old snorkle on the sanding side to allow the pvc to roll over the VERY ROUGH sanding belt, maybe 80 grit,I only ground down about 3 inches ,which is width of my belt, once you get it down about 1/2 the thickness.the pvc will conform to the out of round hole in the fender.ALSO,I believe the PVC I used was actually pvc electrical conduit pipe ,ithas a much thinner wall, that meant less grinding and perhaps a larger inside dia for even more flow. Thanks for all the help this site gave this old 60-70's hotrodder. Its certainly a differnt world from when I did mods.

So if the silencer restricts airflow down to 2", how can there be any gain without also removing the silencer?

linus,if your referring to my reply,I did remove the silencer, thats the whole idea of the mod,i wasn't clear,i used the silencer as a temporary handle to allow the new pvc pipe to roll while the beltsander took off the material and also spun the pvc so the sanding was more evenly done,i held the large part of the silencer in my left hand ,slid the smaller round end inside the pvc, then used my right hand ,four fingers in otherside of pvc,and used thumb as a break, the pvc will spin fast if you dont control it,

the intention is to get "cold" air out of the fender rather than the hot air in the engine compartment. it can be left off but i dont know the difference. my friend cut his stock filter housing to look kinda like an after market CAI with the drop in K&N filter.

Hi, I’m new to the site and have just finished up with this mod on my 97 4.6. I wish I would have found this mod 80,000 miles ago, I wouldn’t have bought the K&N FIPK and saved myself a couple hundred bucks. I took the K&N off and put the factory stuff back on and am very happy. If anyone out there is “on the fence” about this mod go for it! Easy, cheap, same results and looks cleaner! It doesn’t get any better.
I used mikesea’s belt sander method on the PVC which worked great. Thanks tarajerame. Keep it up!!

the snorkle is so the motor gets ambient air faster than waiting for the truck to reach 35-40mph or faster...

you can run it without teh snorkle but then your defeating the purpose unless your riding at higher speeds

Was just asking in general, if you have a choke point both at the silencer and at the fender opening...how do you get any gain by just removing the one choke point at the fender?

Consider two funnels- one above the other...with liquid poured into the top funnel. Would liquid come out of the bottom funnel any faster if the top funnel were eliminated and the liquid poured at the same rate? I'm guessing there would be a small improvement.
