Hit a deer new bumper options?
Hit a deer new bumper options?
Well hit a deer this morning at about 4am
Bumper is bent and the plastic piece above the bumper is cracked as well as a scratch on the bedside by the rear wheel.
So the repair bill is quite high. Scratch on the side I can live with but the front needs to be repaired. I have a $1000 deductable so that's exactly how much the bumpers are shipped so price is not an problem I would be dropping the cash anyway.
Here are my options I have been looking at bumpers and Iron Cross seems to catch my eye as well as the Boondock base model (bit too big I think) and Tactical Armor Group (Really liking this one).
I can kill two birds with one stone getting an aftermarket bumper that will replace the stock bumper as well as that top plastic piece that is cracked.
Here is the question for you guys and gals. Would the black bumper look good on my red/chrome truck? Should I paint it to match red or just get it fixed and don't do the aftermarket bumpers.
Here is a picture of the truck before the accident so you can see if the bumper would look good black, PTM, or replace stock.

I think the black steel bumpers would look fine! I just don't care for PTM'ed steel bumpers because they look kind of tacky and it's trying to blend a hulking piece of metal that isn't supposed to blend anyway. However, I've seen replacement (used) bumpers and bumper pads (top plastic part) on Craigslist for less than about $250 for both. And even if you had to get the pad repainted, it'd still be noticeably cheaper. So if you want to save money, check out CL and salvage yards instead of getting new from-Ford parts. Even Rockauto is probably noticeably cheaper.
But I'm kind of hoping I back into something or someone taps my bumpers so I have an excuse to buy steel ones haha

Thanks for the replies and votes guys!
I heard somebody say they found their steel bumper on CL I'll do a search today and see what I come up with. Being in NY about 15 miles away from the city there is not many junkyards that let you buy parts from them unfortunately.

Personally Id leave the stock busted one and put the 1000 bucks else where but thats just me. I used to like those big *** bumpers but not any more (especially on ttb half ton stuff, some of those bumpers are stupid heavy) so Id vote the iron cross because it appears to be more of a stock size then those other two. The boondock aint all that nice imho. Decision is all up to you though
I like the IRON+CROSS as well. I'd want to see it on the truck tho first, - if possible. Depends upon the Winch I wanted. Whether just a little hide away or a 18,000 lb 24V SW. 24V definitely and since your a FF/VFF, that could come in very handy. I use an old 8000 lb Warn in the shop occasionally (hoist, rigging/block and tackle). Yea, very old, -I bought it when I was still in high school, working summers on the farm lol.
Other than that, you have a beautiful truck. I like the way it looks in the picture and might want to keep it that way.

look at frontier gear bumpers. i have it on my truck and love it. I personally think the replacements that you posted are way too much for our trucks and just too big. Just my opinion so take it for what its worth.

Thank you all for the input .... keeping the busted one is not an option I couldn't drive around with it. I think the boondock is too big and the TAG one has too bad of a reputation so it will probably be Iron Cross. Keep the votes coming for PTM or keep it black.
Edit: I updated a picture of what the Iron Cross would look like on a 150

I think that is the one I am going to go with.... I read some bad things but seems that they have gotten their game together somewhat other than paint.
With credit cards now payment is not really a big thing to me. Paint seems to be their biggest downfall but I will get it black and than if I don't like it I can PTM. We shall see if the construction is good I can always paint it myself no big deal.
Thanks for all the help guys!
Stock got my vote.. I like grill guards on 3/4 tons and up, they add to the look. But on a half ton look out of place to me and seem to add a lot of weight to the half ton front end.
