HID Lights
HID Lights
Okay, so I'm not very familiar with HID's. I've done some reading about HID's and I was wondering if this kit http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DD...ast-35W-or-55W is a true bixenon kit (seperate bulbs for HID lows and HID hi's)
Also what the brightest lights are? I'm not picky with the color, I'm just looking for the brightest lights. Personally I like the "white" look...
Right now I have a set of projector headlights on my truck. Will HID's still work in there?
If anyone has suggetsions on what company to go with or even who not to go with that would be a lot of help too.

That kit is not a dual bulb kit. When you turn on your highs, it flicks the bulb up, rather than having dual bulbs. The most pure white light is 4300k. DDM has lifetime warranties on their kits and their prices are really good, but their processing time for orders is pretty bad but has gotten better in the last month or so. The HIDs should work in the projector housing but its best to get your headlights retrofitted for HIDs to avoid glaring oncoming traffic. Some people say they don't glare but its best to go the retrofit route to get the best cutoff line.
I should receive my DDM kit tomorrow, and have it installed this weekend. I got the 55W with 8,000k brightness.. i hope they aren't that blue..
i'll post up a review after i get them installed.

Read that thread carefully. That is the only proper way to incorporate High Intensity lighting into your truck.
As for recomendations of who not to go with, basically ANY drop in HID kit for the stock housing is what not to go with (the DDM kit for example). Since you want the "brightest" lights, you would also create the MOST glare and cause havoc for oncoming traffic.

I have DDM tuning Fog lights...kits are comparable, my McCullochs are def higher quality. I am happy with both though.
4300K-5300K is going to be your best choice for "white" light and brightness from the bulbs.
Your "projector" lenses are cheap halogen knockoffs (not cheap, but when talking about real projector lenses") Actual real projectors are going to run you $400-$1000 depending on who is making them etc. The cutoff line that is produced by NCSU's actual projector lens vs your halogen ones is not going to be comparable...still better than what I run with standard halogen housings.
As for a dual beam because of your headlights you might have to buy 2 seperate kits and splice them into the harness. If your High and Low beams are seperated in your headlights housings its the only way I can think of doing it. Most "dual" HID bulbs are going to be mounted together and go into the same headlight hole, and not split like you are looking to do. I would recommend running a Bi-xenon Hi/Lo kit in your headlight...and keeping your halogen bulb in your headlight housing HI beam location.

Retrofit projector and 5000k lights .....anything more than 5000k and you loose output.....
4300k is the most usable light output, while 5000k is the "purest" white. Like 88racing said anything over 5k and you lose output, while they may look brighter they don't light up black as well. And with them in the stock housing you'll lose more output to light scatter.
There's a lot of info on this site about HID options.... I've been looking into it a lot lately myself. I don't think I've seen anything on here about these "easy to install" HID retrofit kits though. What do we know about installing these into 04-08 stock headlight housings?

For a good "how to" on the MH1's that the group buy was targeting, look at:

I have 6000k, which is a diamond white with a hint of blue or purple. There Xenon lights, The guy at truckers toy store (Im from NC) said there the brightest, but everyone has there different opinion. I have 6k in my low/highs and my fogs and the lights behind my grille. Havent seen anyone around where I live thats brighter even with the lights behind my grille off.
