Whelen Strobe kit
Whelen Strobe kit
i have a 2000 step side and am looking to get a set of strobes in the tail lights, was just looking at my taillights and there isn't that much room in there i was just wondering if any one else has done this on a step side, did they fit?
your id say's "NJ"
unless you are a volinteer (spelling is not a strong point) firefighter or ems WITH permits these are illegal in new jersey
i had permits for mine and still got stopped by the jersey gestopoe
last one out, turn off the lights

Hey guys,
I have them in my 05' XLT. I have them in the head lights and the reverse lights. I also ran the strobe cable into the cab by using the vents in the rear of the cab. Send me an Email if you need help, I will try to take pics and send them to you if you need help...

On my truck, I drilled for my taillight strobes on the flat area on the side of the light where there was VERY little room. But I don't have a flare side so I can't relate 100%.
The strobe base is fairly small and compact and the pigtail is very flexible.
The hardest part is finding a flat area to drill and secure the light to the plastic.
Good luck with your install!

Forget going with a strobe kit go with the L.E.D's they are called the Whelen Vortex's and are just as bright with no stobe box to hide.... they have in line boxes check em out this is what is being put in everything now much much much cheaper as well http://www.whelen.com/_AUTOMOTIVE/de...74&prod_id=427

Pockets,
I haven't seen the Vortex LED's yet, but I have seen the Hide Away LED's. How does the quality compare, do you know?
In my opinion, the LED lacks the intensity of a conventional strobe light.
I would much rather hide a box than risk my safety when working on the side of the road.

Yes they are cool, but I would have to agree that I'll stick to my strobe tubes.

As far as the Vortex's in comparison to standard tube strobes or the LED strobes, the vortex's should be mounted pointing outward because they cant really use the full potential of the reflectors in the light as a strobe that sticks up an inch these little guys pack a punch though that's for sure, never need replacement, and no box mounting. We should be putting these in my buddies truck really soon I will take a video for you guys (within the next month)
Every new police car, fire chief, and ambulance (around here at least) is going away from strobe tubes and putting all vortex's in (becasue the LED strobes are ridiculously expensive
) and the vortex's are great for fog lights and such those tight little lights that a strobe tube would burn the plastic out. For price it just so happen to have a whelen distributor (like warehouse) right by my house in NY lol so I get a massive take off from list price
It's also the only lights that I will ever put in my truck (no not just becasue of the price
).
I ran the cables along the inside of the frame rail and through the vent on the back of the cab.
