I have looked for hours on ebay and read many threads but im still up in the air about which ones to buy. I want something bright and with some blue to it but also legal. I really am not very educated about these lights but i know i want them any ideas?

 

If you are planing on just doing a bulb and ballast upgrade non will be legal. However if you properly aim them, you won't have any problems. I am running 6000k in mine and I think they are perfect. They have just a hint of blue, but are mostly white. 8000k are the next step up will be plenty blue with some white. Then 10000k are really blue and you will run into problems with the law using these.

As far as manufacturers there are several, out there. It also depends on what kind of bulb your looking for. There are hi/lo kits which have an HID bulb, and a seperate Halogen bulb. There are just plain hid low beam kits, which only contain a fixed hid bulb and ballast. Then there are the Bi xenon kit which has a motor attached to the HID bulb which will keep the use of you hi beams and have hids. The hids will move to change angles so that the light will reflect differently to give you hi beams.

I vote for 6000k.

 

I recently installed 55W 6000K HID's in my 07 SCREW. I purchased mine from Todd at Retro Solutions and am very pleased with how easy it was to install them. The setup is VERY bright white with just a hint of blue. Here's a link to thread about mine if you want to check it out. Good luck to you!

 

Theres no such thing as the words *legal* and *HID* in the same sentence. Either way you look at it, they are pretty much illegal and if you are one of those guys who goes down the road doing something stupid, these will most definately get everyones attention and probably getting you into trouble.

All I can say about it is that whatever you get, pay the extra and get bi-xenon (low and high beam).

My parent's have a lexus at home that is equipped with legal HIDs.

As long as they have a proper projector, HIDs are plenty legal.

Grey areas include a retro. If you retrofit in OEM projectors into the truck then you can fight it if the issue ever comes up. I did a set for my ranger and they are pretty much one-of-a-kinda for under a grand. IIRC the law states the light have to be in OEM housings, which mine were in Infinity FX projectors, just then mounted in my ranger headlights. You can get aftermarket projectors to bolt right into an F-150 if you want to be less noticeably illegal and less blinding to others.

 

Often times retrofits still wont pass emissions inspections when on a truck.
