Cargo bed lights
Cargo bed lights
Got a Tonneau cover over my bed and its a little dark under there at night.
Anybody hook anything up to use as lights. I see recon has some but they seem a little pricey.
Would like to hook it up to a switch somehow.

my buddy has some on his F250 with them. he just used some autozone lights and mounted a switch on the inner side of the bed close to the back. an awesome install thar we use regularly and produce plenty of light. i will try to get some pics soon for ya but im pretty sure that you could get this done for less than 50 bucks, including lights switch and wire

I have seen these before which make everything look good. They are LED's and shine a clear crisp white light.

Take a look in my gallery. I got a small under hood light with a mercury switch built in from E-bay. It will come on automatically when I lift my hard cover. I have it wired to a switch also so I can turn it off during the day. The bulb that came with it wasn't that bright though, so back to E-bay for a LED replacement bulb. What a difference! Got that from a place called V-LED's.
you can make your own. get two 6' strips of white LEDs and tie into your dome light. its what im going to do when i end up getting a tonneau

Thats a good idea. Really any type of 12 volt light will work. I wanted one that would shut the light off when the cover was down and didn't require turning it on from the cab. The light I found on ebay was an old vintage under hood light from the 70's I believe. The guy had it in its original package. Not even sure you can buy anything anymore with mercury in it for saftey reasons.
AFjetmech..Cool, except ive got a rollup cover so I will have to mount something under the rail.
Raptor..thought about the led strips to, but not sure if they would provide enough light to light up the bed vs just being some accent lighting. Also could run 2 on a side to help but would then need to wire them into each other.
I found these...

Thinking the 168c is the one to go with. 2 on a side, would have been nice to be able to get them in a blue color so that its easier on the eyes in the dark.
What do ya think?

If you dont mind drilling, why not just use a hood pin switch from a remote start? Hell, you could even go to the dump and cut a swtich out of an old fridge and use that. Any type of pressure swtich would work.
Not really wanting to do much drilling. 3M tape was what I was thinking.
Which one of these do you think would work the best. The ALM series or the MCM series.

Thinking 2 or 3 on a side wired somehow to each other and then to a switch inside the truck.
I can just hook these up and go right, no converters or anything? Could use some helpful ideas in the wiring dept guys

Found some by putco last night that look similar to the ones that you mention from Recon.
Dont think that they will fit up under the bed rail though.
Torn between buying something like that and paying more money for the ease of installation vs trying to rig something up.

you cant even see the recon lights from the bed. They tuck up under the rails perfectly. If you order direct from recon this code used to work for 10% off, should still SF1P07
