Dumb badge question....

{one of those things I'd be tempted to just assume.... but you know the problems that can cause, right ?}

Anyway, is the 8" Ford oval on the stock grille of my 08', the same exact oval as is used on the tailgate ? I mean, they are the same size, and look just the same.... but I mean like the 3 mounting pins and all ?

The reason I ask, is that I just took the oval off of my stock grille, and it would sure be conveniant if I could just redo it {light sanding, bulldog, satin black spray, then Patriot decal} and then just walk out and swap the one off of my tailgate, for the new custom one, never having gone without a badge on the tailgate at all......

Confirmation please...

Much thanks,
Fish

Chris,
I really look forward to your results. You going to get pics during the process?

Cool....

Hey Darren, yes, that's the ones I have, but Patriot decals doesn't measure from edge to edge... They go from the edge of the painted section, so they call these 8 1/4"

Hey Blue, well, we know what they look like before. If the bulldog stage, or the satin black stage look interesting enough, maybe.... But I'm just really bad about getting on a roll, and not slowing down to take photos until its done... But then yes, photos for sure :-)

Peace,
Fish

Actually, I am interested in the "after filing them down" look. I have the raised letters too and will probably follow in your footsteps.

Okay Blue....

so you still remember (from that other thread) where I mentioned filing / sanding down the rasied letters.....

But ya' know, I talked to the girl at Patriot decals, and she said that was really not neccessary, "unless" you were going to go with a lettering which read something other than 'Ford' (for obvious reasons).

Now, I remember you (or was it another forum member ?) said they had problems getting the decal to lay flat.... But on that note, the Patriot girl said that as long as you spray the badge with water (or soapy water, or whatever it is they recommend) you can slide the decal all around, and work on it all you have to, to get every last bubble out + get it perfectly aligned... so then when it dries in a day or two, its all good. Hmmm.

If worst comes to worst, I do have "two ovals" of which I'm only using 1 of. I guess I could order an extra oval decal, and try one on rasided letters first... if it works, that great. If not, I could file and sand the other, and give it another shot.

Hmmmm....

It was me and the problem I had is that the decal wouldn't lay flat and the raised sections can actually be seen fom a good distance away. The edges of the decal crimped due to the convex shape of the badge and the raised lettering.

If your emblem is 9x3.5 it will fit no problems.
