New nightime mod.

I attached these fog lights (WalMart $20) to the lifty bracket thingamabob a few months ago. Tried to hard wire them, but it was a PIA! I went ahead and spliced into an old UHual four prong. Ran the wires through the square tube at the rear end of the bed, and connected to the trailer harness. Cheap mod, but it has been real handy.

Thanks. My only issue is that the lights, or parking lights must be on in order for the fogs to work. There is a switch in the bed, that turns them off while I am driving. All of the connections are soldered, and not crimped. I did have to cut the wires, and add some "C" connectors in order to remove the tonneau.

Looks great Shine!

Is there any way you could put a "refrigerator" switch in that would turn them on when you raised the lid? That would seem to resolve all of your issues. Possibly a normally closed push button switch through the bed rail?

At first I thought you were joking Then I read further and thought, that is not such a bad idea. Although where would I barter for something like that?

Don't think you have to "barter" much. I'm sure there are surface mount switches you could put on the underside of the rail with the button up through a hole you'd have to drill in the rail. The lid would close the switch when it's closed. You'd have to drill holes in the rail for the mounting screws too of course. Since you have a KR with the KR bed rails, you might have to put the switch between the metal and the KR rail cap. This would mean you'd have to cut a rectangular hole in the metal rail for the switch.

Maybe try Radio Shack? Or, a good electrical supply place.

pay a visit to your local landfil, bring a screwdriver and some pliers. im sure they would let you take a switch off a "trash" fridge...

Just another thought. Is there any way a switch could be actuated by the locking latch on the lid? If so, it would probably be a better installation.

I'm going to do something along those lines. Instead, I'm going to add two long strips of LEDs under my bed rails and wire them to my dome light so it lights up the bed when I open the door or hit the dome light switch.

And check this out:

^^^ Great idea, just screw a hole under your bed cap and install it there. Will engage lights when you lift it up.

Great link Raptor. Shine, I think this is the kind of switch you want.
