60" Fire and Ice Probs!

Ok, installed it and hard-wired it and all and the directionals, brake lights, and emergency flashers work, but when I turn on the headlights or parking lights, the LED strip lights up as if your pressing on the brake (all fully lit) and the directionals and/or brake lights wont override it when the lights are on. Is the bar supposed to be getting this much juice when the lights are on? I mostly like to show off my bar at night and all it does when I have my lights on is just glow.... kinda disappointing. I took an Ohms' meter to it and it read that the plug is getting fed +/- 7 volts/amps/whatever with lights on and with directionals and brake on it's only getting fed 4 volts/amps/whatever. Any ideas/suggestions?!?!? Thanks!

-Alex

P.S: I'd really love to get this problem fixed as my dad (who wanted me to wait until Sat. to do it with him) thinks I messed up the wiring and all that and the truck is screwed, I broke it, etc, etc.

Well it was doing this even when it was plugged in. its not that hard to bloody screw up 4 color-coded wires when I'm a pro at soldering computer chips.... Does anyone with some sense know if its a prob in my truck thats sending too much juice to the bar?

Bro your brake wire and DRL wire is backwards. Switch the wires and try that.

Well it did this even when I first plugged it in. Which wire is the DRL wire? I even had this problem when a few weeks ago I first got the Bully Fire bar but returned it because it was too cheap and then I ordered this thing.

when you put the blinker on does your regular blinkers work front and back? Have you ever used the 4 plug on your truck with a trailer in the past? If so any problems with the lights on the trailer?

Could be a smiple fuse problem. I had a fuse poped in my truck when I bought my trailer and everything worked right till I put the headlights on and the blinkers on the trailer stopped working.

Ok, here it is:

Everything working 100%, all truck headlights, all brakelights, etc. Wiring is 100% correct, inspected by electrical technician. I have my 4-pin plugged into our 6-pin that we use on our camper which has a brake system on it.

I was running through the lights and I noticed that when my emergency flashers are on, they are dimmed out to what the running lights should be at. But everything else is at the highest brightness.

it's a shame you're still struggling w/ such a simple project.
did you mean in your last post that the light bar dims to running light level when the e-flashers are on? In every instance i've used the F&I bars all the lights on the truck(s) have blinked brighter than the light bar (when the e-flasher is on).
maybe it's time to e-mail PlasmaGlow and share your troubles w/ them?

That's exactly what I meant. I sent them an e-mail, but no response yet.

NVOk, I got a response. It reads as follows:

---------------------------------
You will need a 450 ohm resistor to separate the power so your running light will dim down on your bar. You will need to put it on the brake wire and that should fix your problem.

Nicole
PlasmaGlow warranty

-----------------------------------

Where can I find one of these doohickeys and how much $$$???

I just looked it up, and I see they are very tiny and very cheap, but there are like hundreds of diff ones, which one is right for me? Can it be soldered in or is it a specific mounting thing going on here? Thx.

I'm not certain if there's much of a difference between different manufacturers, etc. As long as it's around 450ohms, it should work. The simplest way would be to just solder it inline with the brake wire and put some heatshrink around it. You could always insert a two prong connector into the harness, install the resistor in the mating connector and run it inline on the one wire so it could be changed out if it ever burns out. That would make it easy to replace if it was necessary.
