Anyone know where to get a good set of HID'S for a decent buck? Also, would the HID bulb be hot enough to melt the bulb housing? (heard that from someone) Anyone have any pic with HID's Thanks

now remember, hid are lower in temperature than halogens, thats why they last longer, im boutta get a pair because if been waiting , and no one else has them on a ford round here but they are a good investment, just dont but the cheap CHINA NO NAME brand, either, u get what u pay for on this, and these days they have plugnplay which is extremely easy to install , the bi-xenons are more expensive but otherwise u loose your high beams

 

I havent put Hids on my truck yet but after christmas i hope to have a set. I bought 8000K HIDs off of ebay to put on my ford escort (previous car) I had them for like a year and they were some no name china brand. No problems at all with them. Could be some freak thing but I liked them alot and they were very easy to install. Like he said though unless you opt for the expensive ones with dual beam, you will lose your high beam. I had no problem without it because those lights are bright.

 

i agree with BigShoesHirtge HIDs do run at much cooler tempetartures than stock halogen and you get what you pay for. i have several friends with chinese made HIDs and 3 out 5 of them burned after 6 months. the light output is phemoninal compared to stock, and well worth it, here's links to sites where i shopped, i bought my 5000K at xenonpros, and projector one piece headlights and turnsignals from xtralights.

and remember for the optimum light output and white colored light go with 4000K -6000k and if you drive on a lot of unlit roads spend the extra $100 for highbeams, safety first.

 

Flareside, did you put the HID in the projector light???? that is just what i wanted to do

 

Any other good sites? I am just gonna get the low beam and then mount Long Range Fog lamps on a Westin Bull Bar. How easy is it to wire a fog lamp to the high beam control? Do i connect it to a fuse?

 

if you splice into the harness at the light into the high beam wires then you can run your auxiliaries with the high beam switch. only problem there is, unless you have some kind of mod, the low beams will turn off when you cut the highs on. id either find a premade harness or make a harness yourself to run the auxiliary lights.

it would be pretty cool though. wouldnt have to mount that extra switch.

 

Hey guys one of my first mods was the HIDs, i decided to do the fogs and low beams (unfortanatly no Hi-beams now) I am really happy with them and so far so good no melting that i know off, i have heard numerous things that they short and melt the wires or melt the headlight housing etc. But havent had any of this. i think ur best shot is ebay for a good kit, make sure the kit is h13 and plug and play so u dont have to sodder any wires like i did

That's exactly what i did, but when you buy the projectors you change from a 9007 bulb type to the H3 type for low beams, and the HB3 (9004 i think)for the high beams, two seperate bulbs so you don't have to worry about only having low beams. The bulbs might be different for your year though so if you change to projectors, order and install them first, check the bulb types, then upgrade to the HIDs itll save you a head ache if they're not the same.

 

I just installed a set of 8000K HIDs in my Expy and I think they are awsome. They were really easy to install and are extremely bright. There is a guy on FTW who is selling them for $150.

 

Thanks Flareside, that will be my christmas gift to myself, is changing the projector bulb just as easy as changing a regular headlight bulb. looking at the back of the projector assembly, it looks difficult, thanks again..........Expy, what is FTW

Don't worry about changing the housings if you have any mechanical ability, and im pretty sure you have some being on this site, but it's pretty easy and straightforward, once they're in your lap you'll go "oh, that's easy" and finish in no time.
