How do you guys like your 2014 trucks?

I have a 2007 F150 FX4 that I bought new. It has a 98K on it now and really like it but Im thinking about upgrading in the near future. Im not sure if I want to buy new so Ive been kicking around the idea getting a used 2014 FX4 5.0L with around 40K as I like that body style and it is quite a bit newer than my current pickup.

Could any of you with year pickup please give your input and if you think this is a good idea.

Thanks

I have a 2014 STX SCrew that I really like. I've bought the most expensive and this one is the cheapest. I like this one more than the others. I went on a 3500 mile trip in March and it rode fabulous with the 20" wheel package. There was no fatigue from being on the road for 26 hours. I like everything about the truck even the 3.7 V6. It has a lot more power than the 4.6 I traded in and gives me the gas mileage to boot. It's not the same truck as you are looking at but it seems like the YM 2014 was a good build year for the F150. I haven't had to take mine back to the dealer for anything. About the only complaint would be the F150 did not come with a rear sway bar and neither will the FX you're considering. Fords position is the sway bar limits articulation and you'll lose one of the back tires due to it being off of the ground in real rough terrain. My position is I don't drive daily on rough terrain. I need the handling that the sway bar brings. It's already paid for itself in 2 near head on wrecks that I was able to avoid because the truck drives like it's on rails. Made a huge difference in wet weather too. Long term plan is to drive this one until they make something I like better....and that's going to take a lot.

I have an XLT with the 5.0, 58,000 on it. It's a solid truck, no problems and I average over 19 mpg.

I thoroughly love my 2014 3.5L EcoBoost Platinum. Like Lab, the only thing I have had to do to it is change the oil (every 5000 miles) and I had to replace the OEM tires that were on it when I bought it (used). It has FAR more power than the old 5.4L Triton in the 2005 truck I used to have and gets better gas mileage too. Tows my 3500# trailer like a dream! Works well in the snow and on ice too, with the 4WD.

My ONLY complaint is that the 3.5L engine is too small to give me sufficient engine braking when going downhill towing the trailer. I have to use the brakes a bit and the transmission won't shift down below 3rd at 65mph.

Very happy with my 2014. FX4 luxury package. I've done some very long road trips and it is comfy.

Zero issues other than the turn indicator stalk had to be replaced. I figured it was better to get the last year of a body style than the first year of a new one (I bought in early 2015).

You hear of a few people running into issues with the ecoboost including my buddy(2013 3.5L eco that had timing chain issues) but I can't find much info on how the 5.0L has been holding up and if you would consider it reliable out to 150K miles.

The reason you don't find a lot of discussion is because there are so fee problems with the 5.0. There can be a problem with anything mechanical but I have not heard of any chronic problems. I put 85,000 on my 2011 and have 58,000 on my 2014. All I have done to them is change the oil and filter at 5,000 mile intervals and change the air filter as needed.

I had a 2005 5.4 and all I ever did was change the oil every 3,500 miles and changed the plugs at 65,000. I put 135,000 on it and loved that engine. Had s tuner on it too.

I have a 2013 5.0L FX4 which isn't too much different, except for the lower control arm strut mounts, and better STX packages and a more unique FX appearance pkg grill, along with the Tremor model.

Anyway, I bought my '13 at 43k miles almost a year ago, zero issues. What a great truck. Put an airaid jr intake tube, and Roush catback on it. Throttle sound makes me happy. I put my Nittos from my old truck on it, love how it handles and runs with them. The 6spd trans and 5.0L are a major upgrade from the 4r75e and 5.4L. Currently sits at almost 49k miles.

My 2014 was a great truck. It had a problem with the transmission @ 28k miles. But it was fixed under warranty, so it was all good.

I have my 2013 FX2 that would be everything the FX4 is but the 4X4 and love it.
Mind you I only get 16 MPG on a long trip but the 6.2 does it in style

I've been doing a lot of research as of late and have noticed a lot of issues with ticking/knocking with the 5.0. Sounds like it is mostly with earlier trucks but Ive read people reporting it with 2014 5.0's.

I plan to look at a 2014 5.0 this weekend. Should I be worried about this?

Guys with the Mustang 5.0s have been talking about a common failure with the 5.0. Seems that the engine develops a loud tick and then #5 main bearing goes away causing catastrophic engine failure. The 5.0 in the F Series is not quite the same engine. I've never heard of any F Series 5.0 having that exact issue. How about it- anybody hear of the 5.0 dropping #5 main bearing in an F150?

I remember a guy on here a few years ago had a stock 5.0 pop on him. He was pulling a car hauler and had some type of catastrophic failure at the rear of the engine. I can't remember the exact failure off the top of my head but I think might have been this.

I think the long block on the 150 and Mustang are pretty close to each other. The Mustang has a slight bit more compression but a different set of pistons would make that change easy enough.

I put 85,000 on my 2011 5.0 and I'm at 59,200 on my 2014 5.0 and both are the quietest, smoothest engines I have ever owned. No problems what so ever.
