Fuel Nozzle Stuck

Anybody else had a problem with the fuel nozzle getting stuck in the filler neck after getting gas? I pull on the nozzle but it won't budge, I had to wiggle it around for a few seconds and then all of the sudden, it will just release. I bought the truck new about Feb. 2013, so I have had it for a while and this has only happened twice since new. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or maybe heard of a TSB for it?

My wife had that issue with her 2010 Escape last year, the end of the filler nozzle actually came off and fell into the tank when we forced the nozzle out as we had no choice and we had to go after the station for all the repairs at Ford. By chance are these Shell stations this is happening at she only had the issue at Shell pumps.

This happened at a Sunoco station both times. It seemed like the flap inside my filler neck got stuck against the end of the nozzle. I looked at the nozzle this second time that it happened, and I noticed a rim around the end of the nozzle, it was not flat. Hopefully this is an old style nozzle and not something new that they are making.

Ok, I just did some research on this, and I guess it is a common problem. One of the manufacturers of the fuel nozzles changed their design and as stations are replacing their nozzles, more of these are showing up. If you do an internet search for "stuck fuel nozzle in ford" plenty of articles come up, including this news report from a year ago:

Thanks for the links. So I guess according to Ford, we are supposed to inspect the nozzle every time we fill up now to make sure it is compatible with the easy fuel system.

If these new style nozzles become the norm, Ford needs to figure out something different, but I don't know what they are going to do with all the vehicles out there now. The nozzle I had the problem with was actually different than the one they show in the link. It was not a two piece design, it was all one piece, with a raised rim around the tip that the flap caught on.

I'll just keep a hacksaw handy....if I ever drive a vehicle with the easy fill capless system.....

let the gas stations take the loss....its not ford's fault that some nozzle engineer tried to reinvent a Chinese finger trap...

Hahaha

I would probably carry a thin steel dowel to just shove next to the nozzle and lift up the door away from the nozzle. Simple fix

Maybe even a coat hanger would work

Hey DougS,

Have you spoke with your Ford Dealer about this? If you'd like, I'll gladly look into it for you. To do so, shoot me a PM with your name, VIN, mileage, dealer, and best daytime phone number.

Nick

No, I have not talked to my dealer about it, but I really don't see any reason to, after doing more research on it and finding out it is not just a problem with my truck. It seems like Ford needs to address the issue better, instead of just issuing a tsb that pretty much says it is not their problem and to inspect the nozzles first before inserting. I guess I was one of the lucky ones to be able to wiggle it free both times, and not have to take apart the nozzle.

If you still want me to send you my info by PM, I will, but it seems like this issue should go to corporate and not a local dealer.

In that last video posted, it looks like there is still another style different than the one I had a problem with, since that one has a collar higher up on the nozzle instead of a ridge at the tip. Also, I don't know about using a screw driver or anything else metal to possibly create a spark around the gasoline and vapors??

Wouldn't be much different than smacking and slamming a metal gas nozzle in there.

After seeing this thread, I think I'm going to pursue my idea of swapping out the capless system for the older cap style from the 04-08 150's
