It's because we can afford to hire better joke writers. You should go to a Maybach forum sometime, those guys are really good.

The rebuild kit for a Garrett GT15 is $60.00. You can keep your $.02, I don't need it.

i find it funny how some people think a turbo is some magical spaced aged device that's been reverse engineered from crashed spacecraft at area 51. then going to cost a bazillon dollars to fix. S@#t people it's just 2 fans sandwiched together. i'll be trading in my 5.0l in when the 2013 Raptor comes out and if they offer the Eco in it i'll be getting one.

^ exactly, these turbos for the EB are now MASS produced. They will be a dime a dozen, especially in a few years when even more are on the road. It's not like they're big ol 118mm monsters found on outlaw cars.

lets say they cost $60 for a rebuild kit. Now how much does the labor cost to pull the turbo, rebuild it, and re-install it? Don't make it sound like it's a cheap easy fix when the majority of owners here take their truck to a dealership or a shop.

and i know i have to say this or all you eco nuts will jump down my throat, i'm just pointing out a flaw in your argument. i have nothing against a turbo'd vehicle or their reliability.

I don't understand why some of you guys are acting like this is Ford's first turbocharged engine? Seriously? 6.0L? 3.8L? 7.3L? I've seen injector swaps cost more than a turbo swap. Even then, that's not something you will have to worry about for a while. Didn't Ford's mules go to 150,000 miles before they ripped it apart and found all boost pressure numbers still in spec?

and did you not read the last of my post saying i have nothing against the reliability of turob'd motors?

I was just replying to wookies remark at the cost of the rebuild kit.

This thread is hilarious!

I was installing my leveling kit the other day and saw one of those little turbos just chillin on the side of the engine, seems easy enough to me to get to it. How many internal parts are in an engine that I can't find nor would I even think to try if they broke? By the time my turbos go out the truck will be at least 10-20 years old and I wouldn't hesitate at that point to rip one of those babies off and give the rebuild a whirl. As someone else pointed out none of us will most likely be driving our 3.5l EB by then anyway, so I'll let the non believer that waited out the technology for 20 years deal with it when he's the 4th owner of my truck. I'll be driving a 6.2l EB by then.
