Traded 5.0 for Ecoboost

Traded my 2011 FX4 Supercrew with 3.73's and 5.0L for a 2012 Platinum Supercrew 4x4 with 3.55's and an ecoboost. I must say that I love the ecoboost engine compared to the 5.0. Much quieter, acceleration seems much better and mileage is better as well. I put 30,000 miles on the 5.0 and averaged 17 even over the 27,000 miles with most highway miles. Drive 73ish onnthe way home over 130 miles with ecoboost and got 19.1. Pretty pleased so far.

As an EcoBoost owner myself, I have to say congratulations on the new truck! You should have lots of fun with it.

As a member of the Forum where just the mention of the EcoBoost mileage or performance compared to another Ford engine typically creates some excitement, I need some !

Do you typically have plans on trading every year for a new truck? Sounds like an expensive proposition in the '11 to '12 upgrade. One most of us here simply cannot afford to make every year. If you have the means, by all accounts go for it. Maybe next year you can graduate into a Harley and be done with it.

Or perhaps, if you cross your fingers, you can pay a little extra premium for the Lincoln tag, and they will bring back the Mark LT.

I am a little curious why you decided to go down in gears? If I had any options to go up in 2010 I would have, but 3.73 was the tallest gear available to a Canada destined truck. I'm guessing you have no tire mods planned.....

The gear sets offered on the EB are different than the 5.0. The 5.0 needs to rev a lot more so they are offered with more aggressive gears in most cases. The only way to get 3.73s on the EB is the get an FX4 or the max tow with the elephant ear mirrors. He has a Platinum which has the power fold mirrors standard. He would have had to give them up and get the elephant ears if he wanted the 3.73s. I went through the same issue when I ordered my truck. I went with the 3.55s and have no regrets.

It's crappy that they make you choose between the 2. As a consumer ordering a custom truck you should be able to get 3.73, or even 4.10, and power fold mirrors, and a 3.5 EB. It really doesn't seem like too much to ask.

Imagine a EB with 4.10's....... WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Strap in, hang on, & shut up.

Congrats on the new truck! Sounds like you achieved what you wanted.

I think it's funny how people always comment negatively about people trading their trucks so quick. If somebody is in a position to trade up how is it of any concern to anybody else. Haters gonna hate.

You can complete with an open diff except when you are in 4x4 and have it locked. Screw that!

Right on Wookie. I pull my 6000lb boat twice per year and thats all. Other than that is all driving for work. The ecoboost will serve just as good as the 5.0 with 3.73's
