Gotts Mod for the 2010 model

I've got the 4.6 2V and was thinking of doing the gotts mod tomorrow.

Has anybody got any feed back on how there modified airbox has been working out?

Any Improvements in mileage?

Anyone used a different set up?

I might use some foam tape around the inlet to make a seal between the box and body....

Any suggestions?

I'd say do it. If it doesn't work it's always reversible.

I tried it and other than the drone I did not see any improvements in MPG's.

The Mpg dropped according to the lie-o-meter from 16.9 to 10.2 avg mpg. Then my calculations were about 16.5 (w/o mod) with mod about 14.5 so it's up to you if you can handle the drop and like the gained drone. I'd say do it.

Hey bigoldie,

I dug up some older threads that have information you might be interested in before you mod the intake:

Thanks for the info Shotgunz

I had a look through all those links and I'vew decided to not bother doing it.

The results just aren't the same as the former gotts applications...

Until there is some "solid" proof, the snorkle stays.

I'm getting 11 L per 100KM "highway" right now, with an ocasional flash to 10L....so I don't think its going to get much better than that.

It might after the engine and drivetrain wears a little. I think the OM or maintenance guide says to wait until 10k miles to get a true MPG reading.

My bad. It's after 2000 miles (basically). OM, page 378:

ESSENTIALS OF GOOD FUEL ECONOMY
Measuring techniques
Your best source of information about actual fuel economy is you, the
driver. You must gather information as accurately and consistently as
possible. Fuel expense, frequency of fill-ups or fuel gauge readings are
NOT accurate as a measure of fuel economy. We do not recommend
taking fuel economy measurements during the first 1,000 miles
(1,600 km) of driving (engine break-in period). You will get a more
accurate measurement after 2,000 miles–3,000 miles (3,000 km–5,000
km).

OK men.

I did the mod. I couldn't resist...

The sound is definatly noticeable.

And I swear my exhaust sounds different...

But then again...I haven't rev'd it up since the day I got it...

The truck sound pretty ripe from the factory as it is.

I'm going to start a new thread on some thoughts I have about the mod...

See if I can get some attention on this one and get some thoughts together...

So I've had the gotts mod done to my air box for a couple of days now.

And I'm not complaining.

On average, I burn 1 liter less of fuel for every 100k.

According to the built in fuel mileage guage.

It definatly sounds good too.

I think I will leave it for awhile and see how the air filter holds up.

The other thread I started was a dud.

The first reply was "Use the search function".... Classic comment on this site...

I was just trying to get some thoughts going......Jeez...
