Has anyone removed the air silencers on the intake tube?

Looking at the two boxes on the intake tube and wondering if anyone has removed them yet? (4.6 3v)

Yep, do a search on the Gotts Mod. Several people have including myself. I wouldn't say I have noticed much of anything in the 5.4 by doing it, maybe a tiny difference at best.

no change in performance but it looks better.

Oops, I misunderstood! I see you were asking about the baffling boxes on the intake tube. I'm not sure of the difference it would make, but I wouldn't mind trying it. I miss the sound my previous truck would make with it's CAI.

If you remove them on our year model engines you would have to cover the holes left because they are after the air filter.

Taking the "silencer" or cone(venturi orifice) out of the intake is really not helping. I know there are allot of people that do the "Gotts Mod" , and I think he made a great design when he did it. But the science behind it, just does not support truth. I've studied fluid dynamics allot over the course of my life, and have help in design of model Bernoulli effect designs for various applications. But if you read and understand the following link you may realize, that it is a little more complex than it looks on the surface.

Be sure to scroll down to the experimental model in the link. The Gotts mod will have an added sound effect, that makes you feel like it sucking more power. But if you truly understand the principal you'll see, the the cone is more than a silencer. I'm not knocking the Gott's mod, I think it has true engenuity and that is what it take to make improvements and advancements in technology. But in this case, the math just doesn't back it up.

Just a side kicker to this post. This principal is also what our dpfe's use differentiate when to open or close the EGR on our engines

This link will help further understand the math in this application.

Haven't you ever wondered with the top HP engines with the injectors on the top of the engine The injecter cones are narrower in the center

I don't think he was talking about the Gotts mod, but rather the little intake "mufflers" in the side of the intake tube, not the snorkel before the filter...

My post also applies to that. It has a purpose of creating a low pressure void to create a denser airflow further down the tube. It's hard to wrap your head around, but is true.

I have a 2010 5.4. A bunch of us did the "Gotts" mode back in 05. I later went with an Ariad Jr. Setup.

On the 2010 I removed the snorkel as it seemed everyone else was doing it.

More noise for sure. But after getting under the hood and really looking at the design of the intake and how it draws air from behind the headlamp area, I decided to put the snorkel back in. It is quieter for sure. No real notice of loss of power as a result.

Just wish the whole setup was a bit cleaner in design. To many warts on the intake tube, but I understand why they are there.
