2011 Ecoboost !
It cracks me up reading those comments at the bottom of the article.
Everyone on the planet is smarter than the engineers that produce the vehicles we drive every day. They all know a small displacement diesel is the way to go. Who cares that Ford has untold amounts of hours and dollars invested in R&D.
I'm quite probably buying a new EB F150, but I won't be the first in line. I'll wait a few months at least, just to see what happens with real-world experiences.

As far as it being an unproven drivetrain, let's not forget that the 3.5L EB is already in the Flex, the SHO, and some Lincoln cars. While it hasn't been quite a year yet, I've yet to hear of any issues with it, other than the fuel mileage being what it is (my only reference being car magazine reviews). But let's face it. Anyone who is buying the EB in any car right now is probably not buying it for the fuel mileage, and therefore they will be more aggressive with the go-pedal while driving.
If Ford's engineers felt that the EB 3.5L wouldn't be up to par with the F150's current engines as far as towing and work duties go, then it wouldn't be going into the F150. Simple as that. The F150 has been the best selling truck and vehicle for many years and I really doubt that Ford would risk losing that title.
Small displacement diesels would be excellent powerplants if it weren't for the ridiculous emission standards we have and the premium diesel powerplants have over their gas counterparts.
EDIT: Obviously I'm speaking CITY MPG, not highway, as I drive 99% City so I could care less what the highway mpg is for the EB. Also referring to the 4x4 figures not 4x2, as I will never buy a non-4x4 pickup truck. Combined mpg also means nothing to me as again, I only do City driving. I think a lot of people like to talk highway mpg, because it makes their vehciles seem like they get more than they do, or a combined rating, again, makes it seem better. All I care about is City MPG, nothing else. For those including highway, or highway only, perhaps that's where the confusion lies. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough in my original post.

Thanks for caring about the environment.
I like to revv my engine when I'm next to Priuses at stop lights. And when the owner gives me dirty looks I roll down my window and tell him I'm going to dump used motor oil in a lake to offset the pollution hes saved by driving that Econo-box
Since Cometflash lives in the great frozen north it is understandable that he only wants a 4x4. 2 wheel drive truck in the snow and ice, suck.
The 5.0 will replace the 4.6. The new EB 3.5 will replace the 5.4. I have personaly driven the EB truck & I was impressed. Plenty of power, good exceleration. The truck I drove was a prototype, and the engineer said they still had some trans shift programing to do on it. I begged him to give up the HP #, but he refused. All he would tell me is that its higher than the SHO. I'm guessing 400.
BTW--sorry to disapoint, but there will be NO 6.2 in the 2011 F150. They said there will be a few more limited trucks that will use it in the F150(guessing another Raptor & maybe a 4x2 truck of some sorts).

Wow , never heard that rumor. Its all been around limited production of 6.2L, not EB.
If 5.0 and EB are only options when I get another one, I guess I'll be going back to Super Duty....
6.2 is interesting but what I really want to see is a EB 5.0 - twin turbo'ed v8 is what we need in a truck, leave the 6 for the Taurus!
