I didn't read the 5 pages but here are my 2 cents.
I prefer aftermarket because it is integrated into my two way FOB and alarm system. I know it runs longer than the GM factory starters. I think my brothers new 08 silverado only runs 5 minutes on auto start? I have my Clifford set to 30 minutes run time. The Clifford will also has a pit stop feature where it takes over while running to run into a store or post office. It is nice not having to shut it off then activate auto start. I am not sure if factory will pit stop or not.

I'm still looking at which system to replace it with. I'm considering driving to Kansas City to see KCAUTOSOUND..........

The 2009 Rear window and mirror defroster is a white with orange stripe wire located at the heater controls. It is pin 25 of the 26 pin gray plug. This is on the non-navigation trucks. Don't know about the ones with nav. It will show ground when you press the button.

The factory remote start default run-time is 10 minutes but it can be set to 15. It also has a rear defrost output on it that will turn on if you press the start button after you have started it. I'm assuming you have the older four button or the new six button Ford stater?

The remote start I have is just single button. Pressing it after a start just turns it off. Any suggestions on a good aftermarket that will 1) give close to 30 min run time, 2) be able to turn on the defrosters in the mirrors and rear window. I don't think thats asking to much........

compustar two way rmst 9000 pro series using a blade transponder over ride kit is in my opinion the best rmst solution on the market.

www.compustar.com

but i will caution you to wait if you can, because we should see a data controlled rmst interface for the compustar systems in the fall. this will allow the rmst system to basically talk to the truck through the data bus of the truck, so when its a certain temp it will automatically turn on heated seats, mirrors ect... it will eliminate a lot of the hard wiring for rmst systems.

If and when they release it that's going to be about an $80 module. The Fords are very easy to make the connections for lock, unlock, defrost and such that to me the Data module is just an added expense. Now on a GM or something that requires you to go into the driver's door to grab the data locks then I highly recommend the data bypass module but with the Ford for now I just pop a kick panel or radio trim and run a couple wires.

It will be interesting to see what all it will control when they do come out with one if it will be similar to the GM Lan or Chrysler Can-Bus data module but with the Fords it seems they drag their feet on anything. With GM you can get video adapters for the GM Lan and anything else. It took them forever to finally come out with something that will keep the factory overheads alive and still yet there is no simple plug-in solution for video override on the factory navigation like GMs. I think GM is more loose with their information than Ford is for aftermarket engineers.

KC the reason for that is because Ford has been protective of the tech and to buy their protocols for doing these things has been hard to do, GM/Chrysler charged very minimal fees for their protocol which has allowed much more development in this field, but with all the changes coming from Ford they now have to work more closely with the aftermarket world. i have spoke several times with our sales rep that supplies our dealer with all our RMST products, he is 90% sure we will see a complete can bus/data bus interface for Ford as good as anything out for other manufactures, and with the push button start coming out on a lot of our new models it is something that has to happen.

That damn push to start. How lazy have we gotten. I just hate having to turn a key...lol

I installed a system into a 09 Maxima yesterday with the push to start. If you remote start the vehicle. You have to:

1. unlock the doors with the factory remote
2. press your foot on the brake
3. wait for the push button's LED indicator to show the ON position
4. ONLY THEN it is safe to select gear after led indicator is in on position

Failure to follow procedure may result in vehicle displaying check engine or tire pressure error messages.

They just keep making it harder or more annoying.

Hey Guys, I am new to this forum. I have a 2009 King Ranch and I recently had the Clifford 50.7X installed. With the factory key fob, when I hit the door unlock button, it would turn on the dome lights as well as the courtesy lights (mud lamps, bed light, and head lights). When I unlock/disarm the truck with the Clifford remote, the coutesy lights do not come on. When I queried the installer, he says this cannot be done. Has anyone hooked up this combination and got these things to work.

Thanks

The other lamps (not the dome light) should only be controlled by the factory keyless entry. The dome light is controlled by connecting to the dimmer switch on the dash. To check this manually turn the dimmer switch all the way up to turn your dome light on. Look and see if everything else turns on. If so then it's just a matter of connecting to the dimmer switch wire. Also on some vehicles I've found that I have to connect the dome light supervision wire to the door latch / pin switch wire to turn on the lights. Haven't never tested this on the 09. Most customers never really bring it up. Quit being so damn picky...lol. The older trucks like my wife's 2000 Expedition and my two 01 and 02 Excursions the running board lights and everything light up with the dome light but I have noticed that the newer vehicles have separated circuits now.

On a side note guys. I just figured out today how to wire up the Compustar systems to arm and disarm via the door keypad. Involves a few relays and a special programming tool I have but it works! I replaced my Code Alarm CA671 two way system today with the Compustar 2W900FM system with 3000ft range. Been having a tough time with Code Alarm company and product inventories and warranties. Figured I'd have a system that I could both demo and keep in stock for the dealers and customers.

I have the Viper 5900. I love the auto start during winter. I can be inside at work and still have a warm truck with single digit temps outside by the time I get there. It also gives me peace of mind when I go to the city with the security of this model.

Lol....I know. I am very picky. Most people would probably not notice unless they frequently approached their car in low light areas. I heard before that you could tie this into the Dome light supervision wire but wanted to confirm.

Thanks KC.

they should hook up dome light input as part of the base install in my opinion, if they didn't they are being lazy and cutting corners.

I had a 6 button one installed in our truck when I bought it. We have only 1 flob for everything including tonneau cover electric release. This will be the 3rd truck we have had with the ford remote starts and no complaints with any of them.

I just got the Ford 6-button gold alarm/remote start in my Platinum. This is also my 3rd Ford system and I never had any problems. Too bad you can't really hook up any extra options with the system like heated seats on the new 09 truck.

This is one with page back and no screen, right? How easy is it to understand the page backs?
