Nope, 5901 is the newest one from Viper.

There is one 2-way remote with 1-mile range and screen. The screen tells you everything going on, even the interior temp of the truck. It also comes with a 1-way remote for your "other half" to perform all of the same tricks with windows, remote start, and arm/disarm but no 2-way feedback.

Ah right, I forgot which one I was talking about. I like that system, the only issues I seem to have is that the screens always get scratched up terribly by the other keys in my pocket. I wonder how hard it would be to apply something like Zagg's phone screen protector.

Had mine for 3-4 weeks now and I have 6 other keys on the same ring and no scratches yet. It is surprising tough. I have dropped it 3 times now from 6 feet on concrete and no issues. I am very pleased with it. You could get a PDA screen protector and cut it down. I made one for a digital camera one time.

Aftermarket all the way. I have a CompuStar Pro P2WSSR AS/Alarm and I love it. It is also a 2-way remote with 1-mile range and screen.

Cargo/Headlights working

So after reading through several threads, its seems the majority is getting an after market like the viper or Code Alarm CA671. On either of these, the posts have said you can use the keypad on the door to disarm ?

Also my other question would be do the headlights and cargo lights come on when you hit unlock like it does with the factory remote?

Does anyone have a install pictures of putting one in? I was wondering where the bulk of the wires were that had to be tapped into. Thanks.

None of the Viper systems will allow you to disarm it via the door keypad. The only ones out there are Code alarm and now Compustar.

The Code Alarm models are the CA671, SRT6700 or the Ford 6 button systems.

Travis (KCAutosound.com) has also recently figured out a way to make all models of the Compustar systems to work with the keypad as well. I recently installed a couple of these for some buddies from him and really like them.

I had to use the keypad the other day when i picked up my truck. I have the viper 5901 and unlocked the door via keypad and then disarmed the alarm via the reciever on the window. Worked just fine. But i very rarely open my truck via keypad so pressing an extra button when i get in aint really a bid deal.

do you have a factory hood safety switch under the hood of your truck?

because i put starter's in every unit that hit's our lot i have yet to see a F150 with factory alarm.

units that do i only use the keypad wiring to rearm factory alarm by tapping into the 7/8 9/0 wires

Nope my Viper dealer added the hood switch. I also just tried opening the doors with keypad and didnt press the alarm button but just inserted the key into the ignition and didnt have to press the button on the window. Seems that either the keypad turns the alarm of or the key being put into ignition does it. I also looked the truck to see if the hood switch funtion when alarm was armed and it did when i let of the switch. I dont kno how they wired it all in but it def works when using the keypad to open the door.

I do have 2 new extra 6-button Ford complete systems leftover, just email me if you're interested $$$.
Steve,
I may be interested, please shoot me some info in a PM.
I assume it will work in my 2009 XLT SCREW?

Thanks,
Chris

Actually that's wrong. You can connect the BLUE with WHITE STRIPE wire on the advanced harness. After you remote start the vehicle press the start button once more and it will turn the defrost/heated seats on. I've never tested these wires. Not sure if they turn on with a pulse or if they have to have a constant ground to them to work. Factory default on the blue with white stripe output wire is set to half a second pulse. You can go into programming and set it up for a 10 minute output if needed.

WITHOUT NAVIGATION

Driver's Seat: white/blue - negative - HVAC control module, gray 26 pin plug, pin 18
Pass Seat: gray/yellow - negative - HVAC control module, gray 26 pin plug, pin 17

WITH NAVIGATION

Driver's Seat: white/blue - negative - HVAC control module, black 26 pin plug, pin 5
Pass Seat: gray/yellow - negative - HVAC control module, black 26 pin plug, pin 4

^Travis, I was the one the emailed you before about those wires. We tested them out and they did not show any type of signal. So it confirmed what others have said, you can't get the heated seats to work because they are controlled by the CAN Bus network.

however, the defrost wire did test out ok to use.

Well damn....lol I'm working on three 09s on Thursday. If I have some extra time on one I'll try to dig around in it and see if I can figure something out.

^sure, let us know. I was talking to another member here who recently installed his own Viper system and he couldn't get the heated seats to work either, but did get the defrost to work.

I even tried to get my power folding mirrors to work with an AUX channel but that didn't really work out either.

I believe the heated seats will only work if you DON'T have cooled seats as well (based on the factory wiring diagram). With heated seats only, the above wires should work correctly. So Travis, if any of the 09s you are going to work on don't have cooled seats, give it a try and let us know.

BTW...Steve, I got my replacement Viper 5901 brain unit, and the remote start issue is now resolved.

Greg
