Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That said, come 2009, I won't be holding the new F150.
There is a lot to like including the performance and fuel mileage increases (not sure I like the idea of a fuel cut out during deceleration tho). The newly add safety features and box access steps. They claim to have smoothed out the idle issues and decreased in cab noise. The increased length to the SCrew sure looks nice, but when paired with the 6.5' box, I'm thinking its gonna be a close fit for those with garages.
But where I think Ford missed the mark is in styling and storage. Looking at that front clip, is there a geometric shape that the Ford engineers didn't include? We got horizontal, vertical, diagonal lines in addition to squares, rectangles, circles, and a oval. And whats up with the over riders? I'm guessing that Ford was thinking that if all those people were buying the Tundra with its ugly face, then they will surely buy the F150. And what is with the huge depression in the hood? It's not a functional hood scoop.
Why did Ford feel the need to mess with the rear? I guess I could live with the built in spoiler, but why not give me the choice to take it or leave it. Those tail lights and all the creases in the tailgate simply turn me off. I chose my current truck because of all the simple, almost organic lines.
One thing that nearly every F150 owner has be screaming about was integrated storage. Honda has the in bed lockable storage (I know "its not a truck, blah, blah, blah...") Dodge has the new Ram box in the '09 line up and the in the floor their with under seat storage containers.
And my final complaint (for now) is with the instrument panel / stereo stack. Why does Ford feel the need to separate all of the radio controls from the head unit? The optional 700watt Sony audio system sounds nice but at what price? We all know that factory options are priced significantly more than the after market and it looks like Ford is trying to force us to buy their stereo setup.
Looks like I will be holding onto my current F150 for about another 40K miles which is when those really great engineered spark plugs will need replacing. At which time you will probably find me at a Dodge dealership. 2010 will see a Cummings diesel in the Ram.

I have to say I've never been a fan of the Dodge look and their new one does not change my mind. If the rest of the truck is all around better than the ford, which I highly doubt, then that can be put aside. I just don't see what all the hype is about with the new dodge.

I'm really surprised how many of yall like the Dodge. I have always enjoyed the classic truck lines of the Dodge and think the new one is ugly. The front looks like the 1500 Fked a charger and this is the result. The new F-150 will be a hit and outsell Dodge at an almost laughable pace... as it always has.
Tbird69, ok that makes sense. IMO the only ugly thing on it is the tail lights, which can be fixed in the after market, and maybe the spoiler on the tailgate but i'm sure I could live with that. This is all granted I could ever afford one. Hopefully the prices wont be too high.

They can use advertising and the media to polish it all they want but in the end it's just going to be a shiny turd. I'll reserve my final judgment until I can go to the dealer and drive one. The '09 Ram just has more of the things I'll be looking for in my next truck.
