MERGED 5X: 2009 F-150 Uncovered

I like the looks of it so far......it appears that the front end is 'in the style of' the Range Rover Sport...would stand to reason since Rover is under the Ford umbrella & the pending f150 diesel is essentially the Range Rover v8 diesel. The bulk of the basic look of the current 2004-2007 line has been retained, which is good.
I really hope that the truck looks different in person, or that they just let that one out to fool people..(wishful thinking). I have to say when I was still looking at the pictures with the black padding everywhere on the truck, I was expecting a WHOLE lot more. Oh well, maybe it will grow on me. I guess they didnt want to spend that much money on the body, since the whole powertrain is getting renewed. The 6.2 boss, 4.4 diesel, and the 6 speed tranny will be more than enough reason to buy one, IMO.

That siad I hope they'll at least give us AT MINIMUM a taste of what to expect with the 6.2L, if not the Diesel. I HOPE they don't attepmt to sell it to us "as is" with a 5.4L and 300 Hp vs the competition all ahving anywhere from 317 to 400HP.... (please spare me the std issue, "trucks are about more than hp" speach....Thx)
I dont believe its going to be a new platform, there is no way they are going to trash a platform after only 4 years. It may be slightly modified, but a totaly new platform is highly unlikely.
As far as the front, I am almost willing to BET that it is all mostly the same "bolt up" parts, with just the different designs on the outside sheetmetal skin. Hood and radiator core support will probably be the only thing completely different due to the design. The doors only appear longer in the pic, but they arent. (speaking of which, when did the screw and scab have different doors?)
The front will just be a facelift. The only part i do see as being new as in "never been anything like it before" is if they actually put the desiel powertrain in one.
Either way, if i want the new look, ill buy an EXPY front clip and have a weird "test mule"

These are the two most detailed postings I've seen on this truck...
kalu:
Ran 6 2009 crew cab f-150's this week, the thing is huge with just a 6 1/2 box. All were black and all wrapped up. 3 valve 4.6 (GT motor) is standard, hoped up 5.4 and a 6.2 gas due in 2010, also a diesel in the works. The cab is even taller. Interior is 100% new. Sony stereo and navigation. Has pull out steps just behind cab to get into the box, step tailgate, integrated elec. trailer brake controller, cool gauge cluster. My opinion, looks a hell of alot better than the GM, I do see similarities to the tundra though, especially the tail lights. All had the new 6 speed auto. front end was all wrapped up, but it's tall and square with a bigger grill and head light set up.

DearbornDerek:
The entire front end is new (everthing past the dash), the floor pan is new, brand new design on the back, new IP, new HVAC/radio stack, new seats and counsel. The 09 will be on the T1. Thats all I can really say...mums the word on exact details.

What ever happened to DearbornDerek? I don't think I've seen a post by him in well over a year, perhaps longer. Same with Rambunctious after the overhead rail projects fizzled out. Wonder if they'll even bother with the overhead rail in the 2009? Maybe they'll have an F-150 Vista Roof like the Ford Edge.
I saw a Limited '08 parked at the dealer as I drove home tonight. Where are the tow hooks?
Are the Tundra taillights LED's? Are the '09's?

Has DearbornDerek ever posted here? He is currently posting on two different Ford sites, but I've never seen him post here. Do a google search and you'll find his postings. They are quite informative.
LED tails in '09?

Another classic post by DearbornDerek.....
Roadrunner said:
"The headlights look like they're going the route of the Toyota Tacoma.
I'm slapping my forehead about this going "no! no! no!"

He also stated in another post that the headlights are identical to the Edge but are "much, much bigger."

I don't see anything but Ford in this truck....Don't know how people are seeing "other" trucks designs in the new 150.
It's amazing what people saw in the camo photos and what they see now in blurry photo that you can't see everything (front and rear)."
