I swapped out my stock incandescent turn signal bulbs for LED's in my 2005 F150, now I have the typical "hyper" flash so I bought LED load equalisers.

My brother (master mechanic with 5 ASE certifications) tells me I really didn't need the load equalisers, Ford thoughtfully provided a factory LED wire under the dash I can either ground or power (he couldn't remember which) to correct the LED impedance problem.
Problem is now, I'm just too damned big (and at 55, too old in inflexible) to fit under my dash to look for the right wire, can anyone give a heads up as to where I should look and for what I should look?

 

You need a replacement flasher for LED:

 

I think your brother was either pulling your leg or was misinformed, there is no such wire.

For an 05, the EP27, as glc suggested, is the correct solution

 

LED signal lights were never available for any F-series in '05, so Ford had no reason to put an "LED wire" there. You need a new flasher module, as GLC and SHO89 explained. Maybe your brother was thinking about a different model year, but I can't imagine how grounding or powering an additional wire is going to change the resistance/impedance of the turn signal to fool the flasher module.

 

Likely instead, thinking about a Chitty, er, Chevy wire. Since he, my Dad and my older brother, drive bowties (although Dad came to his senses and traded in his minivan for a 2017 Explorer)

Anyway, went out and got a new EP-27 flasher module, we'll see if it works, when I install it after all this DAMNED rain stops!!!

Also gonna take back the load equalisers and get my money back

Last thing, I've checked under the driver side dash/kick panel, the passenger side dash/kick panel, under the hood, WHERE THE HELL does this flasher fit?!?!?

 

Sounds like grounds to disown the whole family!

 

Turn the key on, turn on the turn signal, and follow the clicking.

 

Is it possible the turn signals are PCM controlled? I don't know when Ford changed to this, but that's the way my 2014 is. I never looked for a flasher in my old 2005.

2005 is still flasher control. I think it went PCM in 2013.

Do this ^^^ (or just turn on the 4-ways). It's up under the dash near the steering column.

2008 was the last year for the flasher relays in the F150, then it went to being integrated into the SJB (aka BCM). It was still controlled in that module through 2013 MY, the extent of my F150 tech library. I don't know it it ever went to being controlled by the PCM after that, don't have those diagrams.

 

Thanks, I was being sloppy in my terminology. It's too hard to remember (besides the obvious things) what's controlled by a PCM, TCM, ECM, BCM, GEM, or, whatever??? Seems like automakers have fallen in love with the control module concept so much that they had to specialize ALL their functions. I THINK my truck has at least an ECM, BCM and TCM. There may be another??? As I recall, the PCM was replaced by an ECM and TCM.

Sure makes it hard to be a shade tree mechanic, but, I DO like the fine control those things supply.

As a general review:

ECM/PCM = the main computer that runs the powertrain (at a minimum)
BCM/GEM = Body control module - Body and accessory controls.
TCM=Transmission (only) control module. Most frequently, this function is integrated into the PCM (automatics).
