Well after 155k miles with little problems other than normal window regulators, window switches, and brakes the FX4 was doing pretty good till a month ago. While I slept this happened. So far the body shop has tallied up 8500 in repairs and I hope to get it back in a couple days. The other driver and his passenger walked away from this but his BMW took a trip to the junkyard. In the video, my house is in the upper left and you can make out the truck just barely. The other car comes from the upper right of the screen.

Wow, lol. That's amazing that you got it on video. At $8,500, I'm surprised they didn't total it out, since that's about 50% of the value of the truck I'd assume. 50% of the value in repairs is normally the threshold for most insurance companies to cut a check and move on without repairing it. Hope they get it back together like new, as I'd hate to deal with any ongoing problems related to this incident.

Hitting the corner of the bed/tailgate explains a lot about the $8500 estimate, especially if the inner tub of the bed is compromised as well. I once had a shuttle bus at a state park back into the bedside of one of my old trucks and that added to the repair bill substantially. Did the bed press into the cab of the truck at all?
Hope you're able to get it all sorted out!

Insurance companies don't care whether a vehicle "holds its value". They care what their payout is, and typically once the cost of repairs equals ~50% of the vehicles' current market value (2004 FX4 w/155K miles = $13K in my area) it becomes totaled. I worked for Farmer's in vehicle claims during my college years, so it just surprised me. Heck, in many instances when significant damage was done to the the bed, they just go out and find a new/LKQ bed as opposed to repairing the original bed due to the repair costs of dealing with getting the large panels to straighten out.
