PTM '04/'05 Fogs.

My friend gave me the opportunity to give his truck the painted fog mod for his 2004 FX4, silver birch n DSG two tone. Instead of painting them black like usual, I PTM'd them with the two tone. It turned out perfect! Almost made me want that style bumper back. I used Dupli-Color Perfect Match DSG paint and their high gloss clear coat. Along with using 1000 and 2000 grit sand paper to scuff the chrome housings up.

Here are some pics from my Droid Bionic.

The project.

Let me know what you think! Would love to see some folks with red, blue, and green paint try these. I know Brent ( Lifted5.4Lariat ) did his in white to match, basically where I got the idea from.

Darren,

Are the wiring harnesses/bulb numbers the same for the '04-'05 fogs as the '06-'08s? I've got the round fogs, but I just saw a grey STX with rectangular fogs and I thought about asking the guy to do a straight bumper swap. Also, he is missing his driver's side mount/light...if I can run those parts down cheaply, how much of a pain would it be to replace them?

I am not to sure, but most HID kits out there are for '04/'08 applications so I would say the harnesses are the same. I know the '04/'05s run 5 watts hotter because of the 9145 bulb, and the '06/'08s have a 9140 bulb which is 5 watts less. So I guess the harness is the same.

As for the bumper swap, make sure you both swap bumper mounting brackets, bolts, valance, and hood bump stops. They are all different with each other. You can take the bumper off the truck with the fog lamps, and valance in place. It is just a couple 13/16 bolts near the frame mounts. Use a good 1/2" drive breaker bar.

So you are saying the drivers side fog is missing? You can score an aftermarket one off ebay for maybe $40. Might be easier to take apart too. Otherwise, if you can find a salvaged one that is not scratched or destroyed, maybe $50 for a used OEM one.

Overall if you really want that style bumper, a direct swap with someone is a great deal since all the parts are there for exchange. It would have cost me about $200 for bolts/nuts, and fogs for my 2004. I paid $150 for the bumper and scored the mounts/brackets free, so it is about a $500 mod after paint for this swap on your own.

Thanks for the info, Darren.

Yeah, the only thing (from a distance) that is noticeably wrong is the missing fog light on his--oh, and I started with a 40 bulb but changed to a 45 when I knocked one bulb out a few months back. No problems with handling the heat, so far.

I'll probably go by his house one day this week and see if he is interested in doing it, and I'll be talking to one of my scrapper friends about finding a replacement light and mount. Maybe I can get it for a song

Oh, awesome work on your friend's fogs...they look great.
