Black Ice #%^$!

hey guys,

just headed back to school tonight after hunting and within 100 feet of getting on I-90 i hit black ice, fish tail across the lanes hit the barrier, luckily the truck started again and i was able to get over to the right side before i was hit.

so i broke the right side steering linkage, might have punctured the radiator but i didnt see any coolant leaking. the rest you can see, what are we looking at price wise you think $3,500ish?

heres a pic

yeah luckily i was just getting on and only going 40ish. i have a feeling it happened when i crossed over the white lines because they get really slick with ice but its also completly my fault because just before i got on the freeway i slid getting onto the road from our trailer and knew that i needed to take it slow. the combo of the lines and me stepping on the gas probably right as i went over the lines made it fish tail.

ugh just makes me so angry!

That sucks. I hope it doesn't cost you much to fix. Are you gonna claim it on insurance?

sucks dude, but it happens...
just be glad nobody was hurt.

As far as insurance goes...that will count as an at fault, and cost you in the long run.
If it were me, I'd try to source the parts, and fix it myself.

If prices are anything like they are here, that's easily $5k worth of damage for a bodyshop to fix it the way they like.

Hey man, unfortunately im in your same boat (

I ordered the whole bumper assembly for $267 shipped (brand new off ebay)
ordered an h-grille insert + billet inserts

The radiators are bent a little but they arent leaking. So going to have to take that to the radiator shop and have them take a look and probably straighten it.

Good thing nothing like the frame or steering linkage or anything is damaged. GOOD LUCK!

I hate to say it, but there is a good possibility your frame is bent. And the way to fix it is replace it. I just had to do this with my 09. Frame + 1 fender + grille + bumper + radiator support + a few other parts + paint and finish = $13,300. Frame alone was about $3700 for the part.

Hope for your sake it isn't bent, but if the front horns are bent, that is the frame. The front section is not replaceable.

I agree it looks like the frame could be bent. Even if its only a little the whole frame must come out.

If you were ever thinking about putting an aftermarket bumper on it. Now would be the time to do it. Just something to ponder...

Sorry about the accident. Your ok and that is the only concern, however the truck will get repaired soon enough. I hate these kinds of things because you never truly know the actual cost of the repair bill.
