Totaled truck, DUI, this sucks, please read!

Well, it is with a heavy heart that I tell you all that there is one more 06 F150 going to the junk yard. Two weeks ago I did the most stupidest thing I've ever done in my life,,,drinking and driving which lead to a wreck, my arrest and a crapload of embarrassment. This was a hell of a way to learn a lesson and thank God it was a one car wreck and that both my passenger and myself are ok. Last thing I remember is my passenger grabbing the steering wheel and pulling hard right. Why he did this is beyond me. When I came to all I remember is seeing my fellow deputies that I work with and my truck upside down.

I hit a "crash impact" thing that was placed in front of little concrete walls while roadwork was being done. Due to the lift, wheels, and tires I presume we went up and over. Don't know if we rolled once or twice. There was not a body panel that didn't have some kind of damage. We hit right at the passenger side tow hook. Three out of the four doors open, the windshield is busted and the back glass is intact. I presume the truck is going to be totaled.

Anyhow, as a Deputy Sheriff this was quite embarrassing and I deserve it. I didn't ask for any favors nor did I receive any. I made a mistake, admitted it and am taking the punishment. What really sucks is that I definitely did not need this on top of a divorce that I am going through. Talk about stress.

Folks, take it from me a DUI is not a good thing, I have embarrassed myself, my family and my department. Please be smart and don't do what I did. In closing, Ford does build a great truck, the roof didn't collapse, there's a bunch of damage, but we walked away. I did not take any pictures because I did not want to be reminded in any way of that night. Good day. Wade

I'm totally glad your okay ! Really ! I mean that.

Everything else you totally deserve.

It still blows me away that alcohol is the most dangerous, and destructive "DRUG" on the planet.... yet its legal ? Huh ? Who made this $#!+ up anyway ?

Had you just smoked a joint instead, everything would probably be fine.

While I am disappointed (as you said, you of all people should know better), I am proud of you for admitting your mistake and taking responsibility for your actions.

I’m sure right now it’s difficult to see the silver lining, but be thankful you and your passenger are okay and use this as an opportunity to educate others about the dangers of driving under the influence.

I know you don’t want to be reminded of the incident, but you really should take pictures to help in educating others.

Had you just smoked a joint instead, everything would probably be fine.
That's the stupidest thing I've read on here in a long time. Let me guess...you're stoned.

shotgunz: Thank you sir, it is going to be a tough road ahead, but I have a great support group of friends and family. Work has been great with this (meaning the fellow brothers and sisters that literally burned my cell phone up checking on me.) but I will be getting a 5day suspension out of it.

Shotgunz, nope. Haven't smoked pot for many years, nor have I drank alcohol, or done any other drugs. But I did smoke pot enough, and drank enough alcohol, to know which of the two is far more dangerous. And BTW, drinking alcohol, and doing other drugs, is one of the few things in life I regret.

Let me guess you have never smoked pot in your life...... but instead, are basing your decisions on here say ?

Fish

Oh, and for the record, I don't condone the use of pot either. It's just a simple fact of the matter, that it is less dangerous than alcohol. Only people who have not actually smoked pot themselves, would tell you otherwise. (Typically speaking anyway. Their will always be the guy who says otherwise, just to be argumentative).

It's just a damn shame that prohibition didn't work Think of how many lives that would have saved.

sorry to hear about the accident....glad your department is only giving you 5 days...I believe I would be on suspension without pay and eventually terminated if I did this with my department.

Wish you the best of luck and if you need anything let me know. We had a detective a few years ago who got into prescription pills and ended up being charged with 4 felonies to which he plead guilty to 1 and received 2 years probation...but is now a convicted felon. He went thru the steps of using the resources within the cities HR department but obviously was not much help as they didn't understand the LEO mentality. He started a completely anonymous service that puts LEO's with other LEO's in other departments across the country that have gone thru the same experiences and are now offereing help/counseling/or just someone to talk to that understands what we go thru.

He was going thru a divorce, alcoholic, drugs and lost his kids right before it all came out in the open.

Drugs and alcohol effect different people differently. There are no reputable clinical studies that prove that pot is less dangerous when operating a 2-1/2 ton motor vehicle.

Driving under the influence of pot is still driving under the influence. Period.

My past drug and alcohol use (or lack of) have no relevance to this discussion.

5 day suspension is about it. The hoops that Im going to have to jump through with my license is just amazing, but i deserve it. I'll get through it. Now, as for another truck,,,gotta see how much insurance doesn't cover. No gap insurance. Crap.

Shotgunz..... yada, yada, yada.... Your rambling is worthless. Oh but yes, your personal experience does have LOTS to do with it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wade06, as several people here have said already, I do have to give you props for being a man about this, and stepping up to the plate to admit your mistake. Maybe this will be the reason another member decides not to drive after drinking..... Or better yet, will decide their are better / safer ways to have fun, other than drinking.
It's obvious your mind is made up and there's no reason to confuse you with facts.
Have a nice day!
Shotgunz, aside from my own first hand experiences, I have read countless scientific reports on the effects of pot, alcohol, and other drugs, on the human body. (most of those effects are negative.... some worse than others)
Interestingly, the scientific facts, almost always go right along with my personal experiences in the matter.
Here are the findings of just a couple scientific studies;
What's more addictive.....
http://drugwarfacts.org/addictiv.pdf
What's more deadly.....
http://www.informationisbeautiful.ne...dian-datablog/
Just a couple of thousands upon thousands of scientific reports that almost always say the same things.... Yet we still have people who just who stare blindly at these facts.
Fish
PS, Shotgunz, I challenge you to show me the results of other scientific studies, which show that alcohol is less deadly, and / or less addictive than marijuana..... or, as you said about me, is your mind already made up ?
