Totaled truck, DUI, this sucks, please read!
Well, it is with a heavy heart that I tell you all that there is one more 06 F150 going to the junk yard. Two weeks ago I did the most stupidest thing I've ever done in my life,,,drinking and driving which lead to a wreck, my arrest and a crapload of embarrassment. This was a hell of a way to learn a lesson and thank God it was a one car wreck and that both my passenger and myself are ok. Last thing I remember is my passenger grabbing the steering wheel and pulling hard right. Why he did this is beyond me. When I came to all I remember is seeing my fellow deputies that I work with and my truck upside down.
I hit a "crash impact" thing that was placed in front of little concrete walls while roadwork was being done. Due to the lift, wheels, and tires I presume we went up and over. Don't know if we rolled once or twice. There was not a body panel that didn't have some kind of damage. We hit right at the passenger side tow hook. Three out of the four doors open, the windshield is busted and the back glass is intact. I presume the truck is going to be totaled.
Anyhow, as a Deputy Sheriff this was quite embarrassing and I deserve it. I didn't ask for any favors nor did I receive any. I made a mistake, admitted it and am taking the punishment. What really sucks is that I definitely did not need this on top of a divorce that I am going through. Talk about stress.
Folks, take it from me a DUI is not a good thing, I have embarrassed myself, my family and my department. Please be smart and don't do what I did. In closing, Ford does build a great truck, the roof didn't collapse, there's a bunch of damage, but we walked away. I did not take any pictures because I did not want to be reminded in any way of that night. Good day. Wade

Second, I hear you are connected to the Police Department -- by a pair of handcuffs, that is.

Third, going through a divorce, wrecking you truck, going to jail, embarrassing you department sounds more like "squatro (4)" than stress (3).

And forth, your case was a case of DWI, (Driving While Intoxicated). Driving while intoxicated means you were driving with an "alcohol" level higher than what is permitted by law.
DUI=Driving Under the influence. Means driving under the influence of drugs, it doesn't matter weather legal or illegal.
Another term now widely being used is OWI=Operating While Impaired, a term given which encompasses both terms DUI and DWI.

Guys, I understand that drinking and driving is a very, very bad think. Ok I get it. I have pulled may people out of cars/trucks that have been hit by drunk drivers and the drunk be fine. So I understand, I really do. I have even lost family as a result of a drunk driver. But with all that being said, had Wade just been the guy that picks up your trash at the local Burger King, and not a cop, firefighter, or school teacher, do you really think that it would of even made the news. NO IT WOULD NOT HAVE! I do not believe that one nights bad judement, should define his career. I believe that a sup is fine.
We all make mistakes, and If Im pretty sure that I read somewhere that MAN SHOULD NOT JUDGE UNLESS HE BE JUDGED HIMSELF. For all of you calling for his job, think about it, the next time you up, should you be fired. Everytime a public person does something stupid, the news is quick to point out that this person was a cop or firefighter or what ever, but like I said before, John Q Public gets into trouble and theres no news coverage. This guy is going through HELL, Yes He ****ED UP, if this was his second or more DUI/DWI, Id be right in line, calling for his badge.
And who ever was saying that Cops set the example for the rest of us..., Id bet your the same bunch of tards that say pro athletes are roll models for our kids. NO one sets the example for me other than my parents.
Just my two cents

To err is to be human.
It takes a tough dude to man up and admit his mistakes.
Hopefully you get everything sorted out, and I'm glad you and your passenger came out okay.

Sorry, everything you said here is crap. It makes the news because cops are supposed to enforce the law, not break it. Once he's back on the job how can he justify charging someone with something he basically got a slap on the wrist for? I've said this already, there are cops that go an entire career of without ever doing something this stupid. Those cops understand what that badge on their chest means.
I would be willing to bet, you are the type of person that bash the cops for anything they do. Always bitching that the cops are just out there harassing people, and then god forbid you need them and then there no where to be found. Bet you ever got picked last in kickball didnt you...

first of all.. now we finally all know why Fish picked that color scheme for his truck. lol
second. Wade, everyone screws up in life, I hope you make it through this alright.
You will be fine.

Yea' buddy. The real reason though, is that it's different like it's owner.
Anyway, I had just written another long post, full of what I believe to be pertinent thoughts on the matter.... but decided to delete it.
I have to admit, I probably have an unfair bias against alcohol, in the same way the poster above has a bias against pot. I've seen first hand, the damage alcohol can cause, and I just hate that crap.
I'll bet the OP kinda' wishes right now, that alcohol didn't ever exist, too....

Wow, that's terrible. I'm glad you're alright and that you didn't hurt anyone else with your stupidity. My buddy just got his FOURTH DUI. He will probably lose his license for a long time, if not forever. I won't lie and say I have never driven drunk, because I have. Since I hardly ever drink any more, it's not an issue. Hopefully you will get it all worked out soon.
Personally I could NEVER arrest a person if I was ever convicted of DWI while being an active Police Officer! Time to hang it up!........Seriously....Your credibility testifying in court in a DWI case is compromised, & any defense Lawyer will have a field day with you!....Time to look for another profession...
OGTerror: You have your right to our opinion, but damn, tell us how you really feel.
Tbird69: A slap on the wrist? So, you already know the outcome of the case? You are a knucklehead. Go back and read what I've posted so far. Nevermind, I'll make it easy for ya. Two tickets, one careless driving, one dui cite. 8 hrs in jail. Business purpose license only. Even if I get it knocked down to Reckless with dui sanctions there will be fines and penalties. I have classes to do as well. Slap on the wrist my ***.
risupercrewman: Seriously? Thnx for the support brother.
To all of you that do understand why I posted this and gave me support, thank you.
There is a ray of sunshine in all this though. Just got off the phone with insurance company. They are valuing the truck at 20,136.26. Pay off is 16K.

unfortunately RI has a valid point, defense lawyers will have a field day with this.
You know anytime you are involved in a big case, any good attorney is going to want to see your file to find a way to impeach you as a witness, or make the arrest seem bogus.
We just had a cop in Boston get in a bind, and every one of his cases back to when Moby Richard ( we can't type Dic_k here WTF!) was a minnow is now in danger of being overturned on appeal. It was for something far worse than a DWI ACCUSATION (note accusation here kids, there has been no judicial determination yet, innocent until proven ya know)
There are ramifications for these things. As someone who has a CDL I got a DWI 9 years ago. Because I worked for a quasi state agency, my job was secure, 45 day loss of license and I was back in the seat. After I retired I got turned down for a job in a neighboring state because there was a 10 year look back and disqualification clause. I might have been able to fight it because the criminal record shows the charges were withdrawn after conviction, but it wasn't worth the trouble. I screwed up, I have to live with the consequences of my actions.
happens folks. we ALL make mistakes, we all have lapses, we all fail to use good judgment, especially after drinking, which is why I have not touched a drop of the stuff in 9 years and 3 days.
I think this topic has run it's course and should be locked.
Good luck Wade. BTW what are you going to replace it with? A nice new 10 or 11 truck?

Normally I'm the first one to rail on someone for being stupid, but in this case it really ain't gonna accomplish anything.
The OP has been drug through the ringer enough as it is. Sure, us civvies would get nailed to the wall for this, but he ain't exactly gonna get away free either.
Ease up and let the guy carry on with his life. Sometimes, failure is the best teacher.

Hang in there brother, I don't condone what you did but I don't think you should be crucified for it either. People forget that cops are humans too and we all make mistakes, this one being fairly egregious but nevertheless a mistake. I'd like to see all the glass houses you people live in.
Anyway. I'm glad to see you're taking your lumps like a man instead of whining and bitching. Most importantly, DON'T EVER do it again.
