I have done it to my bed with these. I can get some pictures of it tonight in the dark of it lit up. I also did a 12V outlet while I was at it. If enough people want a write-up on how to do it I'll make one.
Here are some picture of it during the day time.

NEED A WRITE UP NOW!!! That would be too sweet for bonfires, tailgates (after the game), etc.

Here is one without lights.

Here is a couple with the lights on.

This is almost exactly what it looks like. I'll probably get to the write-up sometime within this week, depending on how busy school and work keep me this week.

I wish I could keep the interior lights from coming on when I shut off the vehicle.

Looks to me like some wire, a switch, and the led ropes are all that is needed. And some time.

The cost for mine was a little bit higher because I put in two switches, one for when the tailgate is open and the on/off switch, and I put in the 12V outlet. But even with all of this it was under $40.

which bulbs would I need to get for an XL with two map lights & a dome light?

probably going to go led on the exterior as well, what would I be looking for with the turn signals/brakes etc. etc.?

Keep the dome off. Still want the domes to activate when the door is open? Is it a big issue? I think its a nice feature.

You are implying you bought those bulbs and installed? Do you have the overhead rail system? How was the fitment of the 36'r?
