How many miles on a full tank?
#31
Since I just recently purchased my 2005 Lariat screw, I've been testing out the fuel mileage capabilities. A couple of tanks ago, I ran the fuel down until the information display said I had 5 miles left to empty. When I filled up, it only put in 27.8 gallons of fuel and I got 432.1 miles. Obviously, if I had only 5 miles left to empty and only put in 27 gallons, I either don't have a 30 gallon tank or miles to empty is really miles to 2 remaining gallons.
Have others experienced this?

I get around 250 miles out of 20-22 gallons used each fill up of my 26 gallon tank. No preformance mods and 87 octane a mix of city streets and Interstate. My heavy right foot probable my reason for such poor gas mileage I get anywhere from 12 to 13.5 MPG's from my 5.4 4x2 with 3.55 gear setup.

As is, I'm averaging 13.5 - 15.3 winter blend, and 14.4 - 16.5 summer, 17.5 highway. I got about 420 miles a tank when on a recent trip.
All modifications with only stock wheels and tires I got 20.4mpg highway, averaged 16.8 - 17.6.
Not sure how big the tank is, but I would guess the 35, Supercab 6'5 bed.

On average I get 280 to 300 miles out of 20/21 gallons of fuel.
I got in the habit of refueling by how many miles are on my trip meter because the last two trucks I've had have had the fuel pump die. Before they die they start throwing funky readings. The Chevy fuel level indicator would actually show that my gas level was INCREASING as I drove down the highway. I quickly learned to not trust them.
So now every time I fill up I reset the trip meter...over 7 years of driving my 2001 F150 Super Crew I know that I'm not going more than 300 miles before the fuel light comes on.

I just purchased an ex-tang roll up bed cover...and it was worth every penny!!! I took two trips, one with/one without bedcover to test mpg. I was getting approx. 424 miles to 30 gal. tank (I only drove 371 mi/24.5 gal leaving 3.5 gal left over which in turn is multiplied by the avg. mpg from 371 divided by 24.5 gal). That is figuring I drove approx. 372 miles on 24.5 gals. leaving 5.5 gals left. That's without cover.
Trip 1 = 424 mi./full tank Drove: 371 mi./24.5 gal @ approx. 15.2 mpg
Trip 2 = 475 mi./full tank Drove: 417 mi./24.5 gal @ approx. 17.9 mpg
Difference = 2.7 mpg, 51 extra miles on full tank, and 46 extra using 24.5 gal WITH bedcover!!!
It will pay for itself in a matter of months, just like the box says it will!

'07 Screw....I drive about 80mph on 80/94 to and from NW Indiana to downtown Chicago for work 5 days a week and it's about 95 miles round trip (one way is a mile more than the other lol) and I get about 275-300 miles out of 3/4's of a tank. Always gas up at the quarter mark...especially when cold out and also b/c it takes about a 1/4 of a tank to make it to work and back....gas in the city is about 90 cents more than here in Indiana.

Anyway, 400 miles to a tank doesn't mean anything. Have your speedometer and odometer been corrected for the larger tires?
Also, you didn't even mention the size of your gas tank.

Last Sunday I drove from Escondido, CA to Salinas, CA. Stopped and filled my 23 gallon tank and the gauge said 625 to empty. 28.3 ampg at that point. Got home the next day and I was at 26.7.
2.7 with 3.73 gears. Crazy mileage so far. Over 4500 miles on the odo and I'm at an overall mileage of 24.8.

No idea short of multiplying my MPG by gallons available as I almost never run a tank below 1/2 ..... that's my "time to fill up" indicator. This habit combined with a periodic fuel filter replacement are two things that will make life easier on a in tank fuel pump and besides all that ..... it costs no more to keep it above 1/2 than it costs to run it way under.
