because there isn't enough room for one big winch and i don't think one 6k winch would do much if i was stuck bad. although i could put one good sized winch in the middle where the spare is, but i have a 35" spare there right now.
might sound stupid lol but i have the winches and the design so im gonna stick with it.

Why not? Why do we lift our trucks? Why put screens and train horns or an xbox 360 or an onboard welder? They aren't needed but are a few of the many things that makes my truck stand apart from others. This is our hobby and whether our trucks are our daily drivers or not, in a way they are our "show" trucks. I have two winches on the truck already but the one in the rear is under the bed but could use a better bumper. We don't NEED most of the things we do to our trucks.

Yeah, now I see what carolina is talking about. Two rear winches might be akward. It will be an interesting project but you would have more use if you just had one 12,000lb winch mounted in the center. I have seen 2 winches mounted in the rear of a truck at Glamis, but the guy had a 12,000lb winch mounted in his rear bumper and a small 3,000lb or so winch mounted up in his bed on some bed bars to get his quad up the ramp and in the truck. Using 2 winches side by side may not work out too well.

So no one has a rear winch bumper? No pics taken from directly behind the vehicle? What are you guys' thoughts on a swing away tire carrier mounted to the bumper? Ive never seen one on a truck.

How are you going to have it mounted?
To swing up towards the tailgate area or down on the bottom side to where your spare went?

Oh and here's a shot of an Iron Bull from directly behind.
Rollers mount where the tag does so you could probably run a spacer and long bolt to cover it so you don't have to constantly take the rollers off.
I might be wrong about that, but you can't really get a feel for depth in this shot.

I think Warn makes a cradle that goes in your hitch that holds a winch. That way you can have it there when you need it but be able to remove it plus you could get a winch with sufficient load ability.

So it doesn't look like anyone has their own rear winch bumper... maybe I'll be the first! But thanks to CedartwonDawg for a good shot of one from Iron Bull. I used it on my high tech Microsoft Paint program to draw some stuff. This is what I came up with...

With this design I won't have to worry about blocking the tail lights or the license plate. I might make a winch carrier for the rear receiver to work with the drop hitch I made but I won't be able to decide until the bumper is done. It looks like I' gonna need to build an entirely new receiver anyway since the one on the truck is welded to the bumper and I want to beef it up as well. I might add carriers for a gas can or two but I won't be able to decide on that until I start fabbing the swing away tire carrier. There may not be enough room for them with the tire being so big. I bought cardboard yesterday to start making shapes and a sheet of 3/16" carbon steel. The tire carrier is going to be made mostly out of pipe but I'm not starting that until the bumper is done. I already know that the spindle I fab to make the tire carrier swing is going to have to be one heavy duty SOB because of the weight it will have to support when swung out.

I took the rear bumper off and fit tested my new bumper, MAJOR modifications needed, I'm too embarrassed to show. I must have had my head up my a$$. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Tomorrow's paycheck is going largely towards more material. I am going to spend all day Saturday working on this thing. I ordered a chromoly spindle rated at 1000lbs today for the swing away tire carrier.
