Heavy duty winch bumper
With the tire carrier swung open, I will be able to lower the tailgate. However, if I need to drive with the tailgate down to transport things, I will have to take the tire carrier off. If I ever needed to transport something that big, though, I won't use my truck. It's too much of a pain in the butt to get things up into the bed.
I ordered a blitz jerry can and a hi lift jack. Both will be attached to the swing away tire carrier. I did some more welding on the tire carrier frame.

I took the winch plate I made a while back for my stock rear bumper and welded it to the inside of the new bumper I'm working on. There was way more room to mount the 12,000lb rear winch with this bumper as opposed to the stock one.

I think I'm pretty much done. I worked on this thing from 6:30 Sunday morning to about 3. I still need to beef up the frame with some gussets but that can be done anytime. Hopefully I can get this thing sandblasted soon to get rid of the rust and then off to powdercoat. I spent about $50 on grade 8 hardware. The bumper is held on with ten 5/8" bolts, nuts, washers, and lockwashers. This thing's not going anywhere! I'll get a 40" spare mounted and put the winch back in and that should be it (unless I change my mind about something, which happens often).
Everything is done!!

Rear bumper includes 12,000lb rated Gorilla Silverback series waterproof solenoid winch, 6 1/2T rated shackles, a pair of 4" lights, rear camera, air quick disconnect, 110v outlet, custom drop hitch, and tow package hook up. I have 10 grade 8 bolts holding this baby on to a heavily modified frame at the rear ends.
Mounted on the bumper is my swing away tire carrier with a 1,000lb rated spindle to accommodate a 5 gal gas can, hi-lift jack, and a full size spare, which for me is a 40" Procomp Xterrain tire. I have yet to buy the tire but it's coming. The tire carrier comes off easy enough and the tailgate can drop when the carrier is open. From this day on, however, I won't be using my bed to haul stuff anymore. It's just too difficult to get things up in the bed. Thus, I won't have a need to take the carrier off.
Oh, did I mention that the powdercoating was done for FREE?!!
Next up, bed bars...

I finally found a spare for the swing away tire carrier... thank frickin God. I had heard that ProComp stopped production on the 40x13.5r20 xterrains but I found one after 6 months of searching. I had found them in the past but no one wanted to break up a set of 4, understandably. But I wasn't about to buy another set of 4 just to get a spare. I've been driving around with an empty wheel forever. I'm glad that eyesore is fixed.

On another note, I shoulda bought a bigger house...
