Advice on putting together air horn system..
What i have so far is two Grover 1510 air horns off of a Fire Engine, but I'm a little bit unsure what parts to run to achieve the best sound, and maximum performance from them. I know they run best between 120-150 psi. i was hoping to put together everything from scratch and try to save a bit of money by doing so.. So suggestions of where, what to buy and how to install are all welcome!
here is a link to a "complete setup" being sold for a single horn, hopefully i can do it for less than this guy wants. it comes to 388 shipped

I really think that set up is to small. 1 1/2 gals is not very much . I first had 2 1/2 gal. tank And It only lasted a couple of seconds. so what I did was add a 7 gal. tank to the 2 1/2 . Now i have a total of 9 1/2 . Now, That I have more volume . It makes my compressor run longer to fill up . I was glad I went with the 450c Viair compressor kit.http://www.viaircorp.com/10007.htmlIts a continuous duty compressor . Any more volume I think I'd have to run dual compressors. So be careful not to buy a small compressor . That one in that kit is small . Heres a pic .
Hope this helps .

Do you have an air bubble laying around?
Here's a 10 gallon that I installed right behind my fuel tank.
I'm sure you have some extra room under there too. Then you would just need a compressor.
If ya put a big tank under there then you could use it to fix flats, run tools, whatever. Also I bough a electronic air valve off ebay for $50 that would work for ya. Mine is for a pneumatic can smasher I'm building.

I do not have a button with a solonoid valve. I have a Graham White train horn valve . I mounted it where a clutch would go . I just push it with my foot to make it scream .
I have a video on youtube in the link below . Its really not high quality . But you can see how it sounds .
06 SANDSTONE,
Why did you cut up the carpet? Or is it like that, just padding...can't remember. I wish I could put my switch and gauge where, my big silly self would just rip that right off accidentally with my size 17 shoes.
efuehrin,
Do you have a lift? I cannot imagine a 10 gallon tank fitting there without hitting the axle.

Train horns are the best, but a GOOD set of real truck horns are harn to beat. Those Grovers aren't a bad substitute when you can't afford Nathan's and such.
FX4life, our newest truck actually uses a solenoid valve even though there's a traditional chain hanging off of it. A mech valve may be cheaper but it's going to involve more tubing which can increase your leak liability. I agree with the advice to get the biggest tank you can fit and the highest CFM compressor you can afford. When/if you really lay on those horns they'll use a bunch of air.
Our tanks vary from the size of a 20lb propane tank and bigger and the pressure will drop if we hit the horns hard to get some moron out of our way, plus the compressors are huge.

You guys all pretty much confirmed why I chose not to buy that kit I listed. Based on what yall have said if i could find a Big, cheap tank (10-15 gal maybe?), spend some money on the good compressor (probably a viair) get some 1/2 tubing and whatever fittings would be needed.
What i'm still a bit sketchy on is how i want to wire it up. What is going to be the best way to use these horns? wire them in a just use the stock horn push in the steering wheel (turning off stock horn by switch when i wanted the air horns), or go with a pedal/button elsewhere?
