What's the #1 complaint about '04-'08 F150s
#46
I like the 22" look but I think my truck would ride a lot better with some 20"s or 18"'s.
trade ya? I love those 22" rims...and a 22" rim with 35" tires would be sweet
dumbest thing when your 450hp truck cant go at least 100mph!
your driveshaft and tires are not speed rated for 100+ mph. that is why the limiter is still there.
get some good ZR rated tires and get the driveshaft balanced...then you can safely run 100+ mph
and i really wish they would have put in a beefer trans, and maybe a shift kit.
SVT and Roush did some testing when they initially got their hands on these trucks. The stock tranny and rear-end are more than strong enough. get a good programmer to resolve your tranny issues. the tranny isn't mechanically controlled, so a shift kit wouldn't gain you much ground.

btw, your truck is only putting down about 350 RWHP...maybe 360 RWHP. You need to get that thing tuned...and then you might have about 390-400 RWHP with a pulley/exhaust/tune

There's some things I really like about my 2005 - which is my 8th Ford truck. There's some things that really bother me though, like:
Brakes - Just plain junk (front & rear) no matter how I look at it.
Upholstery - The person who picked out the fabric in the seats for its ability to stain at the drop of a hat should be shot.
Spark Plugs - Same fate as above, but with a slower death. No excuse for this one.
Resale Value - Even before gas went through the roof, it sucked. Now it's even worse.
Cold Weather Intake Whistle - Yup, my dealer says Ford knows of the problem - but there is no cure,
General Bean Counting - I've discovered too many things that were simply engineered to just make it out of the waranty period like brake calipers, instrument clusters, ESOF motors, etc.

and though the shift points are electronicly controlled any transmission can do better with a shift kit, this will help hold gears longer and stronger. here is a quote from ford-trucks.com
"The Roush F-150 project truck featured in many articles on Ford-Trucks.com is a 2006 F-150 FX4 Supercrew – a very heavy F-150 especially with 20 inch Roush wheels. At 10,000 miles the stock 5.4L V8 was upgraded with an intercooled Roush supercharger, raising horsepower from 207 RWHP to about 375 RWHP after some dyno time at Troyer Performance. Even with Roush’s tune in the PCM, and some firmness added after dyno sessions, this power level was just too much for the stock 4R75E transmission (note that the 4R75E shares many characteristics with the 4R70E used in earlier F-150s and 4R70W and 4R75W used in other Ford applications). Within 6,000 miles the clutches were slipping badly during the 2-3 upshift and 4-2 downshift under heavy throttle. It was bad enough that the entire cowl would shudder when the transmission was hot." They ended up rebuilding the entire tranny.
And i know its only about 360 at the wheels but the transmission is before the wheels.

I have had 2 3rd brake lights replaced and 3 of the 4 window regulators. I have leather so I didn't get any discoloration or staining on the seats from the leak. No other issues here. The truck was bought brand new and only has 48K on it, so it will be under warranty for another 50K or so.

My stock truck was pretty much a yawner... with many of the issues you all have pointed out. But I knew I would be spending some $ upgrading my truck... and I doubt that I am done yet.
#1 complaint about the stock truck... TIRES
Completely unsatisfactory Hancook crap. These losers felt like I was driving on jelly rolls.
#2 complaint... WHEELS
Can you say ugly? The stock steel wheels were too boring for my Mom's rig let alone a new truck.
Complaints #1 and #2 taken care of at Les Schwab with trade in of stock wheels and tires for new wheels and new Toyo A/T's. This swap changed the ride of the truck COMPLETELY and has a smile on my face every time I think about it.
COmplaint #3 was the response/performance of the truck engine/tranny/drivetrain... or simply put the lag between the go pedal and the less than satisfactory action at the rear wheels. This was taken care of by the Magnaflow cat back, AFE intake and Edge Evo. Now, pedal goes down, instant forward motion. Smile is getting bigger all the time.
Compaint #4 is the brake dust as many have indicated. Not sure what I will do about this but the OEM parts are not going on there any more.
Bottom line... love the truck... fun to drive... does everything I want in the way of hauling/towing and I will be driving this rig till it falls apart on me... hopefully in about 20 or 30 years.

You guys are scaring me. I got my truck 6/08 with 24k and Ive put 14k on it in 5 months. No issues yet except for the hancooks (which were changed) and the brake dust (I already put seat covers on). However, it is extremely comfortable (I've had plenty of seat time) looks good and can take a beating. Good thread though.
