I didn't want to bump this thread but since it's back on top...

A local news report I seen this week while visiting my dad had a guy who built one of these dual chamber models on his chevy pickup. Said he went from average 17 to like average 25. This was some guy in his 60's and it was part of a larger alternative fuel report. I've seen these reporters on the air since I was a kid so I know they wasn't making it up cause that part was like an entire 30 seconds. They was mainly talking of E85 since this is corn country. I think i'm going to start researching these and build my own setup.

Keep me updated on this. I'm dying for better gas mileage...

there's a thread over in the engines forum that has a couple of links for DIY kits that cost $50-100. Just a heads up in case someone wants to try it.

P. T. Barnum sure knew what he was talking about when it came to people..

Its hard to believe this kind of fraudulent spam is even allowed to exist on the forum.

Wow, I am very surprised at the pessimistic comments people have made in this thread. You would think with gas prices as ridiculously high as they are that people would be a little more open minded to hearing some ideas on getting better mpg's.

As they say "a fool and his money are soon parted". Hope they can still afford to power their computer.

Yeah, we're up for workable ideas. But, people get spoiled with the tremendous leaps in technology over the last half century or so and think that physics can be beaten. You do realize that your vehicle's engine computer has more computing power than any of the Apollo spacecraft and probably even more recent space shuttles, right?

Even my stepdad has had too much time off while rehabbing from knee surgeries to look through the mess.

He found that Fox News bit about the guy with the welding machine that runs on water...and how at the end of that bit, the end result is more water. Here, I'm thinking as an Organic Chem student..."How do you split hydrogen and oxygen, burn the hydrogen off....and have water reappear??? MAGIC!?!" I guess so, because my stepdad couldn't answer that at all.

But, really, to expect hydrogen to increase a gasoline's thermal efficiency by leaps and bounds is a wild stretch at best.

Well, if you want to be open minded to wasting money, go right ahead. We all would love better gas mileage, but it's not going to come from this contraption. Call me closed minded to being an idiot wasting his money. Like i said earlier, show me some scientific data not testimonials from jo blo.

I thought i would share a great idea to improve mileage since you are wanting to hear some. Hook up a horse to your truck and have it pull you around town. No gas needed.

I think it's pretty funny, folks want to waste money on gas instead of reading the test thousand of people are doing using HHO kits. It works, how well on a F150 is yet to be discovered

as AlfredB said, how do you split Hydrogen and Oxygen, burn off the Hydrogen and then have them magically recombine into water? or, what happens to the Oxygen? why doesn't it contribute to the combustion process as well?

and if this oxygen is getting burned off in addition to the hydrogen, where is the water vapor coming from. You can't destroy 2 parts, and then magically make them become 1.

here's a thought, the water vapor people see is due to condensation, not recombination. everybodies tailpipe does it, the drain point is just in different places

This isn't ground breaking technology. It's illusion that is intended to fleece you of your $$$. If it truly worked, every single car manufacturer in the world would be using it right now. And I'm sure we would be seeing MAJOR BRAND NAME COMPANIEs providing these kits. Not some Joe Schmoe running a midnight operation out of his garage.

yep, he appears to be pushing the product, and when asked/confronted, he provides "proof" that isn't proof.

in addition, he posted this garbage in this forum and at least 1 other forum. His initial post and follow-up posts were identical.

My brothers father-in-law is a engineer and he's already busy making a setup for his dodge diesel. My dad is helping him since he has lots of experience with circuit level electronics. Once they get the kit built and installed on his dodge and get some test run, if positive, they will be installing one on my dad's older f150 and I'll be putting one on my truck. I'll probably forget about this post and will only be talking on relevant forums on this matter since it's still a long time away.

Bash all you want though at least it gets your post count up.

Show me some actual data from a study and i will be on board. But, i refuse to believe that i a going to get better gas mileage from a jam jar.
This is a hunch with no evidence behind it. However, i bet the mileage gaines people are seeing come from the changing of their driving habits. They are obviously concerned with gas mileage, so they are more than likely less heavy on the gas pedal. Also, you have the motive of not wanting to look like an idiot for hooking up a mason jar to their car so they exagerate any gaines if they even have any. Furthermore, they claim to double gas mileage, but all the testimonials claim about 5mpg.

Here's an article which explains the hole scam. There is even a million dollar challenge to anyone who can prove this works. Surprisingly, no one has done it.

Here's a clip from the article:

Unfortunately, the first law of thermodynamics states quite clearly that the energy generated by recombining the hydrogen and oxygen through combustion can only ever be equal to the amount of energy it took to separate them.

In fact it's worse than that.

Because there all sorts of losses involved in the generation of the electricity, the delivery of it to the electrolysis cell and then the combustion process, we actually recover far less energy from burning the hydrogen than it took to create it.

So, once those losses are taken into account, these useless devices will actually cause your car to use *more* fuel - that extra fuel doing nothing more than heating the water in that electrolysis cell and the wires that lead to it.
