Did this mod this morning. Heres the parts I used: Napa 3/4" Shut - off valve Part#660-1413, 4"s of 3/4" heater hose & three worm clamps. I'm headed out right now to get some temp reading.

Did my temp testing. I got no real results. With the valve open or closed I get the same readings inside the vent.
On MAX A/C fan speed 4 sitting temp is 56* freeway temp is 47*.
On regular A/C fan speed 4 sitting temp is 63* freeway temp is 49*.

Edit Edit Edit Edit!!!!!!

Allright not happy with the results above so I checked my thermometer and clamped the hose off to make sure my valve isn't leaking.

The thermometer is working, got it down to 32* in the freezer.

With the hose clamped off I got down to 44* on the freeway on MAX A/C fan on 4. BUT the sun had just set the temp outside was still 104*.
I'm not satisfied with the results yet. More testing this weekend.

Huh? If it's doing it's job, then why are you going back to the store??

If this mod wasn't so ugly, I would have done it already.

Cutoff Valve

Thanks to all for mod and suggestions - took longer to make make up my mind on this one than to install. Here's a link to my Misc directory With a picture:

I'm going back to stock configuration today. Until I can find the smallest ball valve possible. Walter150 where did you get yours? It looks pretty short compared to the OP's and others!

Lowe's

Per je3169's post and link, got it at Lowe's. I also followed someone's suggestion to not cut the existing hose and add a short section of new hose.

I haven't driven it yet. I let it idle up to temp with the heater on - plenty hot. Shut the valve off, ran fan, cooled right down. Ran A/C at idle in garage (no outside air flow) and seems much cooler at the vent. Sorry, no thermometer.
