Will a dumped exhaust heat axle too much
I am deciding how to dump my exhaust. Right now I just have the connector pipe coming out or my y-pipe. I heard a couple times, and it makes common sense to me, that if the exhaust should be ran over the axle or else it will "cook" the fluid in the rear axle and differential. Also running the pipe over the axle should reduce the cab drone a bit.
I think I am going to have the shop run my pipe over the axle with a turn down. But I want to see if the can make the turndown with a larger tip in an attempt to create a lower tone.
Any thoughts? Thanks

I can see how the added heat wouldn't be good, but I don't think it would make a huge difference. The axle tubes and diff. carrier are pretty thick
It will be a bit quieter if you do it behind the axle, but probably not enough to really notice. More pipe + more bend = more pressure, less noise.

I had a problem. When I first had my exhaust done it was dumped before the axle. Then when I got my gears done they said that the fluid was pretty low and darker then it should be. I re-routed mine over and I've taken it back since and they never said anything. As long as it is not dumping the actually fumes/heat on or near the rear axle I think you would be okay. Mine was a little below the axle but I think with the downward pointing pipes and the wind it dissipated the heat upwards onto the axle.
