Will a dumped exhaust heat axle too much

I am deciding how to dump my exhaust. Right now I just have the connector pipe coming out or my y-pipe. I heard a couple times, and it makes common sense to me, that if the exhaust should be ran over the axle or else it will "cook" the fluid in the rear axle and differential. Also running the pipe over the axle should reduce the cab drone a bit.

I think I am going to have the shop run my pipe over the axle with a turn down. But I want to see if the can make the turndown with a larger tip in an attempt to create a lower tone.

Any thoughts? Thanks

I can see how the added heat wouldn't be good, but I don't think it would make a huge difference. The axle tubes and diff. carrier are pretty thick

It will be a bit quieter if you do it behind the axle, but probably not enough to really notice. More pipe + more bend = more pressure, less noise.

I had a problem. When I first had my exhaust done it was dumped before the axle. Then when I got my gears done they said that the fluid was pretty low and darker then it should be. I re-routed mine over and I've taken it back since and they never said anything. As long as it is not dumping the actually fumes/heat on or near the rear axle I think you would be okay. Mine was a little below the axle but I think with the downward pointing pipes and the wind it dissipated the heat upwards onto the axle.

Factory fluid will be a little darker then aftermarket fluids because of the "break in" period of the rear end.... I just did my rear end tonight (got it re-shimmed) and the fluid came out like grey coffee.

Not sure if you guys are talking just dumped out the muffler, or dumped with a turndown. I have a buddy dumped straight out of the muffler and I have turndowns and neither of us have ever had problems. His also sounds louder. im no exhaust expert though...

re-shimmed? call me crazy but if your needing to add shims to get side bearing preload id say those bearings are SHOT.

55k miles, went from 11-13 thousands to 9-11 (specs is 8-12)

all bearing were inspected for pitting and wear, all checked out just fine by a Ford Master Tech

shimed preload for backlash

The only thing that could happen with having your exhaust dumped before the rear end is it could cause your rear end fluid to thin out, due to the exhaust heat.

A lot of camaro/trans am guys dump the exhaust before the axle with turn downs and I have never heard of a problem. Should be ok as long as you don't dump them so that the exhaust dumps right onto the axle.

Cabin drone is the only problem I think you might have. Going over the axle should cut down on any drone you might have. I have a Dynomax Bullet dumped before the axle and the drone is pretty loud for people in my back seat.

I just got my Dynomax Ultra Flo dumped right after the muffler with a turn down...I think it sounds great. There is some drone on the highway but its worth it. Sounds so much deeper, and louder.... its perfect IMO.

Youll be fine as long as you dump the exhaust before the axle and put a turn down on it. Lots of muscle car guys dump them with a turn down and dont have problems. I had a mustang with turndowns and never had a problem.
