Are you doing dumps because of the look? Or because of performance?

If you're doing it because of performance, you're better off going true duals with 2.5-3.0" pipe going out the back, before, or after the wheels.

Turn downs actually hurt performance until you get over the 400hp mark

If theyre after the axle then thats not true. They will do nothing more then a dual system with tips out the back. And Ive never heard of that to begin with. At least not on the forum I was on. And they got some people pushing 700rwhp.

But just imagine......700......rwhp.....on a f150......

How would it make a difference in performance if you are using turn downs or if your pipes exit the vehicle somewhere. This should have no bearing on performance.

I want dumped with turn downs for looks. I think it looks cleaner and IMHO tips only look good on a big lifted truck.

x2 Just go for it. I have dual flowmaster 40's dumped before the axle and love the sound! Plus dumping, like you said, just looks better on any truck. It also makes people in small cars wonder where the hell its coming from....

Has anyone noticed a sound difference in a dump before or after the axle other than the slight reduction in cabin drone?

Doubt there would be a whole lot of difference, maybe not QUITE as deep.
Mine is dumped before the axle, and its still not THAT loud. I say just try whatever you think, and if you don't like it, you can always weld the pipe back on and try something else, or get a different exhaust put on, you know? It's not like you will be out of a few hundred dollars like you would with a full exhaust system.
