Automatic Transmission Slipping

2013 Ford F150 XLT 5.0 77,000 miles. 6 speed automatic transmission slipping between 2 & 3 and 3 & 4. Transmission was last serviced at 60,000 miles. What could be causing this issue?

Stock tune? If not, reload the stock tune. Disconnect the battery for a while so it can relearn. Might be the molded lead frame, that's the weak spot in the 6R80.

It had the molded lead frame notice, but it's out of warranty. Will try disconnecting the battery to see if that helps.

I did some online research and found out that you can reset the module in the transmission. I tried it and so far, it has worked. Will still monitor the transmission.

According to the website, there is a module in the transmission that helps the transmission shift as needed. By taking off the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes, then turn your ignition key to the on position for 15 secs and then start your engine and let it run for 5 minutes. You then go thru the gears on your shifter. Then you go drive it slowly and let the module relearn. It worked for me.

Was leaving the house this morning and the truck lost power and the WRENCH icon came on. Turned around and went home. Did some research, again, and it again points to the transmission. Let it sit for a couple of hours and now no problem. Scared to drive the truck and get stuck somewhere. There is a recall on this model and year truck and transmission. Guess I'll bring it back to the dealer to get it taken care.

Was called by the dealer yesterday to tell me that the repairs had a 10-year time limit, and it expired Jan 2024. So, I have the pay. It will cost around $1500. Oh well. Will do some more research and maybe fight the bill because I never received a recall letter that was sent out in 2019. Wish me luck.

Get an estimate from the dealer, in writing, of everything that they are proposing to do to your truck for $1,500. Let's see what the dealer says is wrong, and how they are going to fix it. Then take that truck to a few independent shops. Go to a transmission shop. See if they agree, or if they have other ideas. None of us can actually do a diagnosis of your truck via the interwebs.
