titanguy

I like the fact that the Titan is made in the USA. Designed in California and built in Tennessee. Most american trucks are built in canada or mexico now.

I got lucky and scored an 04 without some of the glitches that the first year had. I've put every bit of the 10,000 lb rating behind it and not thrown a rearend.

I do contracting work with mine, and i have to say the only department i don't like is the braking. Nissan fixed the brakes in 08, and the calipers are huge, but that is the nature of buying cars, there are always upgrades you wish you had!

I remember the first time i brought home the Titan and my 2 friends i used to do contracting with couldn't believe it. The first guy drove it when we were at a hunt camp on dirt roads, and he was all smiles really. He compared it to his 2002 Z71 in performance, and loved it. He is the most judgemental jerk i know (and my best friend) and he has never bagged on the titan ONCE after driving it. And he would if it sucked. The other guy drove it and never said a word after that either.

But the ford has a classic look, and the interior is nicer. Again, nissan picked up the pace on that in the 08, which is much tighter. I just like sitting inside of it though, it feels like a machine, you know? I don't care so much about the polish, i buy a truck to be a driving machine that can work, and the titan is.

I guess it comes down to what you are looking for in a truck. And apparently a HUGE percentage of the market cares about ford interior quality and classic looks. It tows strong and is a good vehicle that i'd be proud to own.

p.s.

i don't care about putting money it corporate pockets, i care about putting money in the hands of the men and women that build my trucks to put money on the table of their family. I'd buy american based only on that reason, but the combination of price, performance and build location means ford has to deal without my business... for what it matters.

I had to go check the sticker in my window... Built in Kansas City... Far from Canada and Mexico... Some individual parts, yes, but all vehicles are outsourced somehow.

Dearborn is a brand new facility -- online in 2004 I believe. My assumption would be that Dearborn would be based strictly upon technological advantages associated with a new plant.

The titan is a nice truck, but I wanted something I liked. I have no regrets whatsoever.
Agreed. I test drove every full size half ton truck model I could short of Chevy / GMC.

The F150 was sluggish compared to the rest, sort of. The Tundra (first gen) was a snail by comparison.

The Dodges and Nissans simply felt CHEAPLY built. The plastics were too rigid feeling, and simply felt like a cheap plastic toy.

Simply put. The F150 fit my need for a Pickup Truck. If I wanted a horsepower beast I would have bought a GTO or Mustang. But I wanted a Pickup Truck. And sure it isn't the fastest thing off the line. But I ride in style and comfort, with the boat, camping, or utility trailer behind me without the truck behaving badly. The lighter rigs like the Nissan sure do have HP, and tac up pretty quick, but put a load on them and they peter out fast. I figured that one out driving the Texas Hill country while towing a 30ft TT, going uphill @ 70mph and passing a Titan yanking the EXACT same trailer (same rental company and all!) struggling the make the hill making all sorts of noise as it tried...

Now, having said that there are TWO features of the Titan I feel that Ford should incorporate into the F150, and the aftermarket should offer conversions for us that love our trucks otherwise.

Supercab, suicide doors fold all the way back to nearly touch the bedsides. Getting groceries or kids into the back of the cab can be a real pain in the tail with the halfway opening door design. Fold that sucker open further!

Bedside storage... We have wasted space, and I want to get the jumper cables, work gloves, keeper straps, etc.... out from under my back seat.

If I had it to do over again, I would buy the F150 over the others hands down. It rides better, drives better, works better, and feels better... And simply put, it LOOKS better... Especially compared to the Tundra.

My choices honestly were between the F150, Titan, and Ram 1500. The Dodge guys wouldn't make a deal, and the Nissan rode WAY too rough for me to be vaguely interested. But then again, that could be a sign of my age...

IMO I have to have the best of both worlds or at least be close to it. I didnt just buy my truck for towing. I bought it for b/c it looked good and towing. Then if you factor in price, I was happy. Think about it, the Titan may be fast but it is ****ing ugly. No disrespect to the owners at all. The 150 is beautiful and close to being fast not to mention it is a beast in towing. To me that is having the best of both worlds or at least being close to it. I dont have a problem with Nissan or any other truck maker but I have to have a pretty to go along with my features. Look at it this way. You wouldnt want a pretty *** female with a sloppy *** body now would you.

Initially when my lease was up on the 2001 F-150, I was considering all brands of trucks. Actually leaning on the side of the Dodge 1500. After test driving ALL brands of full size trucks in January 2004 purchased the F-150.
Honestly there have been times i wondered if i had made a mistake (based on warranty issues) being an early build i experienced pretty much all the typical problems that were issues, less the wheel nibble and leaking 3rd light.
The day i was totally sold was when in Dec. 2004 a Camry pulled directly into traffic from a blind spot driveway. I hit him doing about 40, impact was between his front drivers fender and door. I hardly felt it inside the cab, his Camry is in a salvage yard being sold for parts. His insurance paid the repair bill (12K). The F-150 is truly a well designed safe truck. Hard to put a price on that.
