I haven’t done any towing yet but it should be great for lining up the hitch. It might be better mounted higher and looking at a downward angle so you can really see how close something is to your bumper. The way its mounted works for me because I know that anything at the bottom edge of the screen and bumper height is 10” from the bumper.

Really nice job on the console. It was said here that it couldn't be done. You've proven them wrong.

Looks like our users names are pretty close! Your truck is very very sweet. What you did with the flow thru setup was very clever. Major props and nice bikes! I gotta likin for the fat boy. Maybe one day soon! Can you talk about the shifter cable configuration in as far as how you installed it. Was there any modification you had to do or was it a simple plug and play. If you have a part number for that cable and perhaps if I'm lucky, the part numbers for the steering wheel upper and lower covers AND, sorry!, the part numbers for the two connector beauty plates (with the horizontal lines on the side) that connects the bottom portion of the console to the lower dash. Again, amazing job

By the way, you really outta check out the Ford OEM Leather Seat Covers in ebony on Ebay for your captains chairs. That would really set off your interior!

Hello FX4, I saw the pictures of your under construction console conversion yesterday. I thought about replacing the center section of my dash, but then found out that center section was actually the entire dash so I came up with what you all see here. I have to give you credit you’ll have the real factory look when done.

As for the shifter cable it should be plug-n-play for your SCREW. Like I said I had to drill a hole in my floor, but you may have this hole already (in your truck it may even be the same hole). It may be located on the trans hump on the driver’s side up near the firewall. That location is where I found the hole in the insulation between the floor and the transmission (slide under the truck and look up). You can let us all know if you find it. The part number that fit my transmission is 5L3Z-7E395-BA. Check with your dealer, they will run your VIN number to see what trans you have in your truck. The install of the cable is very easy. Once you remove the column cable you run the floor cable. You put the trans shift lever and the floor shifter in the drive position. Attach the cable to the floor shifter and floor shifter-mounting bracket. Then attach it to the trans lever and trans-mounting bracket. Then you close the adjuster clamp at the trans lever (snap), put the grommet in the hole and you’re done.

I don’t have the part numbers for the steering column covers. I got them from Ford Parts Online. If you’ve been to their site you know they don’t show part numbers, and when I got them they were in plastic bags with no markings on them. Of course you want to order the ones for use with a floor shifter.

The parts that finish off the sides were cut from the second console sides. I had to make cardboard templates for each side (they are slightly different) then cut them out and finish off the edges.

One other part bought from Ford Parts Online was the front cover that fits around the shifter with the two cup holders in it. That part number is 4L3Z-15045A76-AAA. If you get this part from FPO don’t worry about the fact that they call it the rear cover, just go by the drawing. It looks like no one includes this cover with the console on eBay.

One last thing, I received my eBay Ford OEM leather seat covers via UPS today. I’ll have to get some seat heaters before I install them.

The camera is a Pioneer # ND-BC1. I got it from JJI Electronics (jjielectronics.com). You can buy this one from Crutchfield for $50.00 more if you want the Pioneer warranty. You can also use any other camera that is 12 volt and has a RCA video output plug. I don’t have any more pictures of the mounting. It’s mounted to the license plate frame by two small screws through the back then the cable is run out of sight behind the plate through the bumper and along the frame up to the cab. It enters through the stock wire grommet below the driver side door. The camera also comes with a mounting bracket that will allow you to tilt it and mount the whole thing with double stick tape.

Man, I've been wanting to do this conversion for awhile and had pretty much given up on it because it sounded too hard. Now I'm not convinced that I couldn't do it myself...only problem is that the truck would be out of commision for awhile. How long did it take you to do this?? Or at least how long until you got the shifter hooked up to where you could drive it if you had to??

Don't mean to hyjack the thread, but I can't email you. The big twin in the photo looks like a Deuce. What exhaust system are you using? That set-up looks sick. When I bought my Harley, in January, I had a hard time deciding between the Duece and the Wide Glide. I think that exhuast system would look right at home on my ride. Oh yeah, great job on the console!!

what I dont understand, and please someone enlighten me, is why do you have to swap the entire dash just for the ducts? Couldnt you glue the ducts already there to the ones running under the console?

You dont, you swap the dash so it will be A flow thru. the console connects to the dash.

Three months ago I sold my six year old 2000 Ranger with only 29,000 miles on it to my brother in-law and bought a new 2005 F-150 FX4 Regular Cab. I was looking for a better ride and more payload and towing capacity. So far I haven’t been disappointed, this 150 is one great truck. I got the regular cab so it would fit into my garage, but wanted bucket seats and a console. Ford won’t sell um that way so I started working out just how to get that console I wanted into this truck. After doing some research it looked like it shouldn’t be very hard to not only install the console but also convert from column shift to floor shift. Of course I didn’t just stop with the console but added some other goodies along the way. Check out my gallery and let me know what you think. I’ve been reading this form for a couple of months now and really value you guy’s opinions.
So, you installed a flow-thru console on a truck with no back seat? Did you connect the ducts or leave them blocked? I only ask since it seems strange to blow hot/cold air back there where nobody can sit! I definitely understand why you put the console in though...I love mine!

I have to say....AWESOME mod!!! I've been wanting to do this for a while, but I am not a mechanic by any means, so I decided to wait and let someone else try to see if it was even possible. It was well worth the wait. Could you give me an estimate on the total cost? and maybe a good wright up that us non-mechanics can follow?

Once you’ve got the console, shifter, mounting brackets/bolts for the console and the shifter cable you only are a couple of hours or less from driving your truck with a floor shifter. You won’t be completely done with the look good part but just the conversion from column to floor shifter is the easiest part of the entire project. Of course I’m talking about my experience with the regular cab you SCAB and SCREW guys will have to let everyone know if you can use the same column shift cable hole through the floor or if there is another hole in the floor for the floor shift cable.
