Ah yes...this is a wat to get around losing any high beam features.
Problem with that is that the H3 bulb gets in the way of light beams. This isnt such a big problem, but the other is that a H3 will not product much useable light as a high beam inside our reflectors.
H3 bulbs only produce a decent about of light when inside a housing designed for its light properties.
This is why Catz and other reputable HID companies went with a moving shield or moving capsule. Moving the capsule retains the output levels but only shifts focal points causing upward light for high beams.

Well is it possible to rebase a 9004 HI/LO Catz system to fit an H13 application then? If so where can I find these? If not, where can I find the bulbs torresu is showing? Many thanks!

Adapting a Catz system for h13 would be impossible IMO, but dont quote me on that. Finding a working Catz system is even harder to do since CATZ USA closed their doors due to the HID Ban in 2003. Basically, any HID Kit can not be legally imported to the USA or Canada and all Kit manufacturers have been issued a cease and desist or pay huge fines for exporting here.

The bulb shown is a Korean made unit, but the brand escapes my memory. Korean made bulbs are known for their high failure rate. They are just now starting to improve their quality control but they still cant compete with tride and true Philips or Osram burners.

Hey Torresu,

Where could I buy a set of those bulbs? Did you buy everything in parts, ballasts, wires, bulbs all separate? How's it holding up?

Thanks,

Duke

If h1's retain the same filament position, and it is not set 45 degrees compared to H13 it should work fine.

Lol, well that would be easy if I wasn't in Minnesota then I could drive down there....guess that kinda rules that option out unless they sell them online. Plus I'm not electrically inclined enough to add halogens for HIs. I'd be proud of me if I would just wire them to the battery. Hmm...I'd need help getting this setup or HIDPLANET, do you have any good ideas for making a projector look good in a stock headlamp.

I like the look best of reflector HID, even though I know projectors perform better. I'm also on a tight budget, thats why I was trying to steer clear of projectors; because then you have to buy projectors and a new set of headlamps to take apart. Or I guess I could just do normal 4300K reflectors and just not have HIs...I wonder if normal HID would be enough....

Getting QUALITY lighting on a budget can be tough. With the cost of HID hardware, it add's up quickly. I was thinking for these trucks, if you wanted to go the reflector route, you could find some Lexus is300 reflectors and mount them inside without painting anything so its still all reflective in there making it all blend together. You would still have to get OEM ballasts and bulbs which would run you still, 300+ but its a cheaper solution.

I'll still lose my high beams though, correct?

Correct. There is no such thing as a bi-xenon system for OEM reflectors.

Lol, there is just no comfortable setup for me. The new Shelby Mustang actually has the industry's first bi-xenon reflector HID setup. Just have to drop $1000 to get it...aka not happening.

I'm just flat out of creative ideas to have a set of bmw style projectors in the reflector headlamp. I was thinking put them in like the other guy did, paint the headlamps harley style and then run a benzel from the edge of the projector to the edge of the reflector, straight and flat so it's one large projector look. Just don't know if it'd work and it'd be expensive to just try for the heck of it.

Any creative ideas since you do this for a living? I'm fresh out of them. I'm really tempted to just throw rebased D2R bulbs into the stock setup and loose my high beams but I think I'd get crabby with those hot spots. It wasn't a bad look, just not the best. Besides I live out in the country and it'd be nice to have my high beams still. Those other bulbs don't sound too reliable and I want to stay near 4300K to have the greatlest light output.

So far it's looking:
D2R bulbs with no highs: $250
D2S bulbs with having to buy new headlamps for retro: $450

I'M VERY OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AT THIS POINT! I AM STUCK!

Well you have the right idea about the shroud.
Many people use different methods to make them.
Thumb thru this thread for MANY ideas and concepts for shrouds:

http://hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2822

All you need to do is make them bigger. Another method that hasnt been discussed is to use a piece of Acrylic Mirror which would result in a very OEM sinished look if cut precisely. This way you retain the reflectivness inside the housing to give it a clean look. I understand that you dont want that bug eye look. This was because he used a piece of aluminium that tapered into the lens which draws your eye to the center and gives it a coned look. A flat piece will make it look larger and cleaner.

These could possibly work too:
