Dont top out your truck!

i have just learned that ever time you top out your truck(go to 102 mph and the engine cuts off) it throws a code and it is recorded on your ecu. It cant be erased by disconnecting your battery. If you top out your truck too many times and ford checks the history they might void your warranty.

haha nice, get a tuner so you can run her past 120mph (please no, thats illegal crap, you dont think we already know)

And just to let your know its mostly referred to as "fuel cut" that keeps the engine from acheiving speeds over 100

I'd throw that back at them with the rationale that they put a speed limiter on the truck. By doing so, they have created the top end speed. If your truck shouldn't go 100, then they should lower the speed limiter to 85 or 90.

HMMM, I guess I can just tell them it must be a glitch due to how often it occurs.

Seriously, it must be subtle cause i've ran down the highway at 100 and not noticed it. On my 97 F150 when I hit the speed limiter which was closer to the high 80's it felt like the engine was going to fall out.

My truck won't even do 100, it gets to about 98 and just stays there.

Not necessarily. DTCs P0219 indicates an engine overspeed condition and P0297 indicates a vehicle overspeed condition. Whether or not these DTCs would be used as basis to deny you a warranty claim is up to the dealership in question. I've heard rumors from the Ford stores in town about guys with diesel pickups jamming the throttle wide open until they lock up to get an engine replaced under warranty, until freeze frame data for P0219 showed the engine taching at like 4-5K rpm with a VSS reading of 0 (meaning, the truck wasn't moving). Bzzzt, no warranty for you.

Locking up diesel has nothing to do with hauling butt in an non diesel F150. The dealership can't void a warranty if your AC goes on your F150 because you have a lead foot. Same thing goes if you crack a valve cover or something stupid. Diesel is a different story, thats fraund and not related to this. Good information though for those of us with diesels.

Ive topped my truck out around 104 and it doesnt cut out and slow me down like my last car did with the speed regulator. When I get to 104, it just stays there, no cutting out at all. It just wont go past 104. Even with more torque, HP, and a bigger engine, I STILL cant outrun my fiance in his truck b/c his Dodge will go over 104 stock!

I would love ford to do that... If they said you where going 102 a few times and there for your warrenty is no good.... I would say "Thank you i will never have work again the rest of my life"

And if the dealer shi* did it it would be my greatest gift to take down dealer shi*

It is so full of ****.. You where say in the middle of the salt flats having fun...and to make it even better you are not at red line yet.

this would be me in the court room....

yes and no. this code (if it exists) is based on vehicle speen and not RPm.

Ford sets the top end of the speed spectrum by way of a speed limiter. If they did not put this on then they may have an argument.

Think of it this way, if someone has a "Beware of Dog" sign and the dog bites you, they are purely at fault because te sign acknowledged the dangerous nature of the dog.

Ford by establishing a factory set top speed acknowledges that everything bleow that is within acceptable operating range.

The DTC for vehicle overspeed is probably just a CYA factor for them.

Guy goes to the doctor, and he says, "Doc, it hurts when I do this." Doc says, "Well, don't do that."
