I think of it more as the FX4 is more of an offroad, and Lariat is more of a highway truck. Both are the same truck, but the option packages make them purpose built.

I bought the best I could get for what I wanted and needed. Yellow, which, of course, we all know is the best color. And I wanted a 6.5' bed. At the time I ordered it the FX4 fit the bill. Of course we all know that there all great trucks the only difference is the guy who ownes it.

You guys are funny....maybe you should try something before you talk crap. Go to forddirect.com and build and price an FX4 with a lot of options, then go and build a Lariat with the SAME options and you notice that the FX4 is MORE.......hmmmmm how can pesants afford that? I built my exact truck and built a Lariat equipped identically and came out $120 cheaper for the Lariat. LOL!
But in all honesty it is what you like, I like the black/grey/carbon fiber look better so that's why I went FX4, some people like the woodgrain look. All up to personal preference.

 

The first change that was made to our 97F-150 and my diesel, was the removal of the 4x4 OFF ROAD stickers. If someone needs to be told with a large sticker it's a 4x4 truck, they don't need to know.

Why can't ford just still have the late 80s early 90s plain ole 4x4 logo?

I would think FX4 is a package option code just like z71. its just the code for the off road package....

Now all you lariat owners keep going on and on, wait til the big king ranch owners come in and bring you down to reality.
