Engine Oil Consumption
Before you tell me to do a search, I know about that feature!
(I want current results)
I want to know how much (if any) engine oil your trucks are using between oil changes.
My truck needs about a half a quart between changes, and I wanted to see what everyone else is adding. I fill when the dipstick is lower than the high mark in the "Safe Zone."
BTW- I change the oil every 3000 miles and I have been using MC 5W-20, but will change to Mobil 1 5W-20 when it is available.
Thanks for any replys!

My oil has been changed five times now and I don’t notice any difference on the dipstick reading before or after fresh oil. I always take a look at it before I change it or before I take it to my dealer for a freebie. I probably use some but not a half a qt. because that would be very noticeably on the stick.

10 changes for the year = ($700 @ $70/ea.)
Or just 6 changes for $420/yr. I'm sure you could find a way to spend that other $280 and help the 'ol economy. Plus since most of your driving is prolly highway miles you could easily get away with 5 changes in year and pocket more than $300 for other fun stuff instead of oil.
Let's face it - drivetrain issues 'down the road' at 100K+ miles are normally never caused because the owner didn't change their oil every 3k. Even Ford recommends every 5K under normal driving. I've never changed my Mobil1 in any vehicle before 5k and guess what? No problems with any of them! Crazy!
