Engine Oil Consumption
Before you tell me to do a search, I know about that feature!
(I want current results) I want to know how much (if any) engine oil your trucks are using between oil changes. My truck needs about a half a quart between changes, and I wanted to see what everyone else is adding. I fill when the dipstick is lower than the high mark in the "Safe Zone." BTW- I change the oil every 3000 miles and I have been using MC 5W-20, but will change to Mobil 1 5W-20 when it is available. Thanks for any replys! |
I lose about a half quart between changes every 3K miles using bulk Motorcraft 5W20. Uncle Henry says something like a quart every 1500 or 2000 miles is normal.

I use about the same in 4000 miles. Just changed over to Mobil 1 last change. Still on full @ 2000 miles in this change...Kevin (0-20)

13,200 miles and none so far. oil is changed every 3000.
leaving for florida saturday so it will be a good test to see if any is burned up on that road trip.:smoke: |
My oil has been changed five times now and I don’t notice any difference on the dipstick reading before or after fresh oil. I always take a look at it before I change it or before I take it to my dealer for a freebie. I probably use some but not a half a qt. because that would be very noticeably on the stick.

There's been no loss on my rig. I've changed the oil twice now at
3k each time with the stick reading full before each one. |
'05 screw change every 3000 miles. Mobil 1 0w20 no usage at all in 3k miles.

Wow... look at all the old-school 3,000 mile die-hards. If your going to throw money away, just sent it to me instead! :bandito:

Call me old fashioned too but a little extra money every year for 3K changes is pretty cheap insurance for a $10K motor.............
|
I know DZ, your are probably right but I drive 30k miles a year and the Mobil 1 does look clean at 3k but I just can't bring myself to leave it in there any longer. Guess I'm just doin my part to keep the economy going!

I'm sure you could find a way to spend that other $280 and help the 'ol economy. Plus since most of your driving is prolly highway miles you could easily get away with 5 changes in year and pocket more than $300 for other fun stuff instead of oil. Let's face it - drivetrain issues 'down the road' at 100K+ miles are normally never caused because the owner didn't change their oil every 3k. Even Ford recommends every 5K under normal driving. I've never changed my Mobil1 in any vehicle before 5k and guess what? No problems with any of them! Crazy! |
I change every 5000 miles with Kendall 5w-20 and the truck does not use any oil between changes.

Don't use any Oil here
change my oil every 3000 also $23.00 with filter is cheaper than droping the bottom out of your engine |
