Update.

Went to the Dealer and they ordered a Mas Air Flow Sensor and told me it was fixed. I got about 1/2 a mile down the road and it stalled out on me again. Going back in on Tuesday to "try" something else.

On a happier note. They re-packed the yolk ( clunking gone ) and they are replacing the "rails?" on my MANUAL sliding rear window. Damn thing was squeeking like crazy

Keep ya updated on the next "trick" the dealer tries to pull.

sacramentojoe,

Which dealership have you been going to? I'm taking my truck back to Future Ford for the second time. I'm really getting pissed over this whole issue. I was almost creamed by a Big Rig today while trying to cross Hwy 99 off Elverta today. Future Ford re-flashed the PCM and now it's worse!!! I've printed out a bunch of this thread and will be at the dealership 0700 tomorrow morning.

Rich

I've been taking my truck to Harrold Ford over on Howe Avenue. Tim has been nothing but helpful. Luckily for me, they worry so much about those customer surveys that they jump through anything to get all "5's" on it.

Here is the update from...

Here is the update from today's visit. I dropped the truck odd this morning at 0730. My regular service rep was not in so I spoke to a different advisor. Don't you hate it when you have to explain EVERYTHING again. I had printed info from this thread, but Mr. 20 year advisor was not interested in what I found. His reply... "you can't believe everything you read on the internet". I've been doing this for 20 plus years... Blah, Blah... Blah. I wasn't happy when I left. I called and left a message or two with NO reply so I decided to go back to the dealer to ask some questions. I spoke with another advisor who I had delt with in the past. I wasn't interested in speaking with Mr. 20 year man. They've ordered a new PCM, but it won't be in for 2-3 days. They said they'd do that first and if it didn't correct the problem... they'd order some hard wiring harness. If the wiring harness doesn't work... they'll order a throttle body. Here's my problem with this. The truck has already been in the shop three days. I have to drive it stalling every stop for the next 2-3 days. I then have to take to truck BACK in for the PCM replacement. I'll be lucky if that gets done in one day. Now when that doesn't work they'll take 2-3 days to get the wiring harness. I'll then have to take the truck back again.... do you see where I'm going with this? I spent 30,000.00 plus for a truck and I WANT TO DRIVE IT!!! Because I'm a valued customer.... replace the PCM, wiring harness and throttle body ALL at the same time. I don't think this is too much to ask. I do know one thing... if all they do is replace the PCM and it doesn't fix the problem... the survey will read as follows. F, F, F, F etc etc for all failing grades!!

Maybe I need to take a trip to Harold Ford?

Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich
I took my truck in for the same problem 5 times, 1st they reflashed my PCM, 2nd new throttle body, 3rd new PCM, 4th updated throttle body, 5th reprogram the PCM again and the truck still stalls. I just got me a lawyer and he reviewed my invoices from the dealer and he said that I qualify for lemon law, the law is if you take your car for the same problems up to 4 times in the first 18 months or befor 18,000 miles. I 'll be getting all my money back including down payment and all the payment that I made in the last 7 months. The best part is that you don't pay the lawyer fees ford will end up paying them. Make sure that you keep all your invoices that’s the most important thing and make sure that when ever you take the truck back to the dealer for the stalling problem they write the same problem on the invoice STALLING. You don't need to tell the dealer anything just GO TO A LAWYER. I'm in the LA area if you need to use my lawyer I'll be more then happy to help. I take my truck to Star Ford in Glendale, A for service, last time the service manager told me that he is going to call me in 2 days to see what he can do to help me out, It’s been almost 2 weeks and no call. Please pass this on to other guys that are having the stalling problem.

Jack

Wow, Sad to see that this is still happening and that FORD isn't going out of their way to do something about it. Instead of trying the cheapest way possible first, they should do whatever it takes to get it fixed. They'd really hate a lawsuit should somebody get seriously injured due to their truck stalling.

Are other people still having this problem? I took my truck in once and they reprogrammed it. It is still stalling out. SInce I took it last time I installed the superchips and an airaid intake.. do I need to take this stuff off before I take it back in, so they don't try to say that iis what caused it?

Well they have replaced allmost everything to do with the gas going to the engine, including the gas tank on my last trip. My truck has been fine for the last month or so, but i wont know for sure till i drive it a few more months.

As for your airraid, my dealer hasnt said anything about mine being installed, but i still have the factory intake if it is considered a problem. You might want to take the superchips out though as i have heard of alot of problems with that being screwed up after the dealer re flashes your pcm.
Hope this helps,
Trev

My truck has 70K miles on it, and it stalled out on me like 10 times this weekend. From doing some serching on the internet, and 7 pages of replies to this thred this seems to be scarilly common. I was pulling a trailer the other day that was ~7K lbs and engine stalled. This seems like it should be a recall. It seems like the fix is replacing the PCM....

mY 2004 screw was in this week for a rear window that dropped. (front one dropped a year or so ago) only two times I have used my extended warranty.
the service manager also said I had a rough idle, which I have never noticed, never stalled, ever, he says they replaced the throttle body along with the window motor, said the cable broke?

UPDATE:

After being at the dealership for almost a week, They found that the problem was the PCM, and its going to be picked up tonight. BTW my truck has 71K miles on it, and ford picked up the tab for it.

Granted none of us should be having this problem in the first place, Ford went up a big notch in my book

Anyone know how much a new throttle body costs?

Or just the throttle actuator?

They called Ford and were told to change the mass air flow sensor. Now I'm not terribly knowledgable about the workings of my truck so this doesn't really mean much to me. Anybody else had this problem? And did this do the trick? I'm hopeful but ill-informed.

And BTW, I love this truck! With this one exception, it's even better than I anticipated. Every time I walk away from it, I end up turning around to admire it. Can't believe it's mine.

I didn't read the whole 5 pages, just replying to the OP.

I had the same issue with my FX4. I purchased a new Throttle Position Sensor that goes on the side of the throttle body. 2 screws to replace and have never had the problem since. Also got better throttle response. Good luck. I paid about $55 for the part shipped if I remember correctly.
